Met Jay and his food was not a disappointment. I don't even like onions in my sandwiches but I ordered the SF Giant cheese steak with what goes in it except Mayo altho I look like I love me some mayo but I substitute it with mustard (my fav) ordered the Hungover cheese steak, seasoned fries and their fried mushrooms, zucchini, mozzarella and sub the jalapeno poppers for seasoned fries which everything was so full of flavors that we tore it up. I even went as far and ordered a roast beef sandwich and pastrami burger to go. That was yummaaaay. Jay was great, friendly and a humble person... just seeing how he interacts with his customers is a great thing to see, you don't see that these days. We plan to visit again and try his other sandwiches...
Read moreBeautiful urban surrealist muals make eating at this small place a delight and if it had been called Jay's steak sandwiches, or Jay's Tortas i don't think I would have been so disappointed. Claiming to be a cheesesteak place sets high expectations.
The recipe for a cheesesteak is pretty easy you need bread cheese and steak. But this place misses the boat and adds all kinda sandwich fixings like lettuce, tomato, onion, pickels, mustard, mayo etc. BLASPHEMY! Whats worse their "Philly Cheesesteak" doesn't come with WIZ as is standard in Philly.
They need to change the name or become a bit more authentic in their offerings. The only fixings that belong in a cheesesteak are the ones that cook on the grill...
Read moreI've never thought much about cheesesteak sandwiches. I've had several through my life including trips to Baltimore. I'm eating the mushroom cheesesteak sandwich from Jay's and it makes sense. My taste buds are tingling and my mouth is lightly burned from eating it while it is too hot but it is delicious.
The location is terrible for parking but the physical shop is clean and neat.
I doubt I'll ever have another cheesesteak sandwich...
