Had some young blood in from Kansas City. Missouri! not Kansas, for the Chiefs Raiders game and met the young man after the game over at the Cliff House as he made his way over to the San Francisco International Airport. Always looking for an opportunity to play the role of Ratso Rizzo to any young Joe Buck, I steered him away from Cliff House towards something more San Francisco -ish for him to carry back to the plains after all, the young man already spent over $200 for my ticket so it was time for him to get value on our meal. after finishing off what little remained of my voice yelling at him about how to park in San Francisco with a rented car, we ended up at the wonderful kufu-ya 4 some genuine Cuisine by way of the Pacific Ocean via the new and improved (hopefully lasting another week) Bay Bridge. Having shed my Midwestern good manners approximately July 4th, 1976, on Market Street.(during the Communist parade for the bicentennial). Young squire had yet to lose those compunctions, & was much too shy to venture a question as to just what it was he was about to shove down his gullet. I did ask the waitress over, informing her of this young mans situation, along his desire to take back to Missouri with him on his adventure a winning game. the Kansas City Chiefs over the Oakland Raiders. sushi she brought it to him and showed him how to eat it with ginger and that green s* you roll all that stuff around it I sit back enjoy the show willing to take second seat and allow the young man to grow in his maturity and knowledge the world outside the cow town. The professionalism of the waitress was beyond compare as she instructed the young man in all of the ways that a young man needs to know he left San Francisco a much wiser more mature man, he now has a much broader understanding the Great Wide universe that we all live in spinning spinning free the world of possibilities my hat is off to this fine restaurant that serves excellent fare at a fair price the young man happily paid. I went on my way he went on his. Viva Kansas City! Viva San Francisco! Viva Nancy Pelosi! impeachment to Trump! thank you ladies and gentlemen thank you San Francisco thank you Kansas City Chiefs for showing the Oakland Raiders what time it was it's time for them to leave time we will pay no more personal seat license fees get the f*...
Read moreWe visited Kufi-Ya and unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. Our friends had reserved a table for six, but my husband and I arrived earlier because we were hungry. The restaurant staff was aware that our friends would be arriving at 7 PM, as they know them well. Since we were early, we ordered a glass of wine, a bottle of sake, a cucumber salad, and one sushi roll while waiting.
Before our friends arrived, my husband specifically asked the server to provide a separate check for the items we ordered earlier. She agreed. However, when he went to pay, we were shocked to see that they had added a 20% service charge, which, according to their policy, is applied to groups of five or more. When he pointed out that there were only two of us at the time, the server responded, “But you were sitting at a table for six.” This is completely unfair and misleading.
Aside from this frustrating experience, the overall dining conditions were disappointing. The tables were sticky, which was unpleasant. There was a cold draft coming from the window, and in the restroom, the ventilation system was running instead of the heater, making it uncomfortably cold. In winter weather, the heater should be on, not a fan blowing more cold air.
As for the food, it was overpriced for the quality. There are plenty of places in San Francisco where you can find better sushi, fresher ingredients, and a cleaner atmosphere at more reasonable prices.
Overall, we left extremely disappointed and will not be returning. We cannot recommend this place based on...

(Brothers, write a comment or send me a pm if you ever make it here; also write a review to help this business if you liked your experience)
KuFuya is THE best shabu/hotpot restaurant in SF and I am so thankful that they survived the brutal Covid lockdown. They have been in this family business for more than 20 years and definitely have five stars in the following areas:
*Family vibe and friendly 5 star *Quality, fresh ingredients, and quantity 5 star *Service 5 star, quick to serve you what you need (but please be nice to the servers and apply the golden rule and don't abuse them) *special sauce!! Their secret receipe 5 star (just mix garlic, reddish, and green onion in the sauce as much as you love them, but use the red pepper sparingly as it can be pretty spicy).
I recommend spicy miso soup base for the shabu.
Julie, thanks for staying open despite the stupid lockdowns and govt harassment. Been coming here with friends and family for the past 5 years and I am proud to say that I am your...
