Took 1 star off due to availability of menu. Menu is very limited on my trip. There were only 4 entrees listed on the menu but everything I wanted to try out on my trip was out except for the steak. We ended up having to order steak as our main entree for our entire party.
Chef choice oysters are fresh but the sauce lack a little acidity and heat kick in my opinion. It came on a bed of chunky salt instead of ice. We sat on the patio on a cold evening but I think I preferred for the oysters to sit on a bed of ice instead.
I was surprised but I would say the Arabe & shrimps tacos were my favorite. We liked it so much that we had to order multiple set in lieu of main entrees since everything were out except for the steak.
Oh....btw, I'm not much of a steak person but I really like the steak here. Well charred, some tendon so it's a nice contrast of texture instead of all meat. I'm Asian after all. And the grilled vegetables that came with the steak were just perfect.
The corn ribs were grilled corn with mayo and chilli crisp....aka Asian sate chilli sauce. It's still a good appetizer but it doesn't have the same wow factor like the others items we had ordered for the evening.
The came the dessert. Again, the only item available was popsicle. I believed it was guava and jalapeno. What an interesting combo. I think it has mint in it as well. It was quite good. I think at $10 a piece, it's on the pricey side for a popsicle. I think consumers would find it a better value if it was present sorbet style.
Overall, it's a great dinner and I would...
Read moreWhat a nice place! If I was to RE-judge previous restaurants based on this place hardly anyone would get a 5-star. The cumulation of the food, service, ambiance and pricing makes this place an absolute gem.
Now for my disclaimer: this is definitely for open minded foodies. We like to eat and next to our mortgage food is the next greatest expense so please come here with an open mind, heart and appetite.
Let's start with cocktails. We prefer stronger flavors so preferred the La Fogata over the El Milpero, but both were well executed. For the second one we asked for something that wasn't on the menu. The bartender, David, came out, spoke with us and made a specialty drink we loved!!!
As for appetizers, the broiled oyster, grilled cheese and corn ribs were excellent. The corn ribs were spicy and my mouth was burning, but they were so good I couldn't stop eating them.
The main dish of duck and steak brought this place back down to earth. Both had great flavor, but the duck was slightly overcooked and the steak was tough.
Dessert was unique, but flavorful and well executed. I'd say a must try and make up your mind type of thing.
Other positives were the owners were present and interacting with patrons, they have their own parking lot as well as outdoor seating and it's in an up and coming...
Read moreToday, by chance, the restaurant I was originally going to go to was closed, and I entered this place where I was curious as I passed by. The place I found while passing by looked like a bar, but when I searched, it said it was a fusion Mexican restaurant, so I thought I should visit it. I was looking forward to it because it looked very modern. The interior attracted attention with a very clean and sophisticated interior. I received the menu and didn't know much about Mexican cuisine, so I left the order to my husband. Thinking of as the owner, she was really kind and gave a careful explanation of the menu and we accepted most of her suggestions. As a result, it was really delicious. The dishes with the ingredients they made and their know-how felt different from the Mexican dishes they had tried so far. The dessert was perfect, and the duck dish in the pepper was a little spicy, so my husband liked it more. We were hungry after going to the gym, but we cleared all the plates. If you have anything to do near downtown, I strongly recommend...
