I'm not one to use Yelp so much as to only praise what I genuinely like or what I consider the worst, in this case, I believe my experience in this Bill's Cafe was one of the worst I've had. I normally go to the Bill's Cafe by Willow Glen as it's my go to spot for breakfast, but on this day I was closer to this location so I decided to give it a shot.
I came in at around 9:30 am and was given a table 30 minutes later. I can tell its chaos inside due to the volume of people, but it seems they prioritize bigger groups over solo or duo customers, which sucks when you've been waiting longer than them. I then ordered an EGGS BENEDICT with a NUTELLA FRENCH TOAST for later. I got my food in 20 mins and was shocked because of the two items I ordered. I first tried the Eggs Benedict and was sad to discover that the poached eggs were undercooked to an astonishing level. The white was very runny and could barely hold its shape together, while the yolk which was supposed to stay put until I had decided to cut it open had already popped, it was a mess in my plate. I attempted to put this into a nearby waitress's attention, but she told me to wait for her and them walked over to a large group and "help" them, I say help in quotes because all she did was talk to them. After a good 10 mins I tried to get her attention again and this time she came over and talked in a very passive aggressive voice, I don't like to be confrontational, especially in public settings so I just let it go and asked for more coffee, to which she sighed as if to be annoyed by me. It was definitely one of my worst customer service interactions.
I was already bummed out by my first plate and the unpleasant waitress so I just did my best to eat and leave. The Nutella French Toast was probably the only salvageable item, not bad but is too sugary after eating it for a while, not much to not about them though. Definitely not worth the 17 dollars.
I can now see the difference in dynamics between one Bill to another, and strongly feel like they do little to retain single or coupled customers, and would rather put all their efforts into larger groups, both in their service and their food. I will definitely stick to the Bill's in Willow Glen and make this visit a one time thing. My advice for anyone considering coming here as a solo or a couple is to just go elsewhere as you're guaranteed better service and better food at a local...
Read moreThis was my 1st time at any Bill's Cafe location which is a legandary San Jose establishment. I would highly recommend to anyone that loves the American Breakfast and Brunch to try out Bill's Cafe.
I got here a little before 9am on a Thursday, which was right before a busy rush possibly because they shut down and close at 2pm.
I was seated right away by the host with a menu and was asked right away what I wanted to drink, I ordered a coffee, then waited about 10 minutes to be noticed by an apologetic waitress that was very kind with a big smile.
I initially wanted Biscuits and Gravy because it's almost impossible to find somewhere "like mom used to make" and their type isn't a sausage based gravy that I really wanted, but I think it was bacon instead but it worked nicely and it was enjoyable. I ordered also the crabcake eggs benedict which I never had as an eggs benedict with their country potatoes. The plate arrived as a nice presentation, a little too much of their house seasoning which was a bit too much paprika-based to really taste the potatoes, onion and I think also bell peppers, but still flavor filled. The eggs on the benedicts came out cooked over hard. I understand its not an easy thing to make eggs poached just enough to where they don't break placing them from the egg poacher but still had very little yolk and soft whites to flow into the crabcakes below, possibly because the kitchen was probably getting slammed with orders.
Next time I will specify eggs poached easy to really fairly rate and judge the meal, but this is the reason for a 4 ⭐.
I also ordered a to go order for my wife an order of Hawaiian Pancakes which she really enjoyed. They had banana, coconut and macadamia nuts mixed into the batter served with...
Read moreI have been going with my elderly Dad to this location for 10 years until he passed away in May. It was always the best and our favorite place. However - I took some family members there this last Tuesday the 25th at 2pm. The worst experience I have EVER had in a breakfast/lunch place. NEVER go there 2pm as they close at 3. They were out of several items, I had to go search the joint for a server, finally one of the cooks from the kitchen came out to take the order and he was great. Then, an hispanic woman - 5' 5" came out to take the order ( spoke little English - Bad!)
When we finally got the order my wife's order was different than what she thought she ordered. When she brought that up the server took an attitude until we decided to just take the blame and tell her it was probably a misunderstanding. Then she cheered up. She was became also pissed off that I could barley understand her! When the food came I felt it was second class. No class. Egg whites over cooked. Hashed browns burnt. They ran out of the sausage I like and brought the "country fried sausage". Thin, rubbery, over cooked and salty. We had to remind her to bring the rest of my Mother's meal. I was embarrassed that I told my family members how good it was and that this happened. I'm mad at myself that I didn't call the manager over. I just wanted to leave.
My message to the management - I will NEVER come back to this place again. and I will be sure to take back to everyone I have told about this place how great it is. ...
