Today I gave up a chance to have Bun Bo Hue with a friend because the office was buying lunch. For the past several weeks I have had a craving for Sushi and although I've had it a couple times in the last month, I've yet to be satiated. So, given the opportunity, I opted out of a social lunch for a to go Bento Box which I would have to eat alone (i prefer to eat alone), at my desk, at the work office. Thank you, Kim, you know who you are!
I chose the Beef Teriyaki and was offered to have a 2nd of another teriyaki, tempura, chicken katsu, etc and asked for Spicy Tuna Roll as my preferred option. Unfortunately it was not an option and so the order defaulted to California Roll, which is one of my least, if not the actual least preferred option because it is so... mayonnaise-y and so not sushi-y. I won't go as far as to hate on someone for wanting a California Roll, and it serves its purpose as a "safe" entry level option, I just don't prefer it and would avoid it. And even then, I ate all 6 pieces and will pay for it out of my calorie wallet. Damn me... because I am not sure it was worth it. So let's start there. There was nothing wrong with the rolls, but there was also nothing particularly notable. You won't remember it apart from any other offering out there.
Overall, presentation was good. Mound of rice, salad of iceberg lettuce with a side of dressing in a container. Dressing was more American tasting than the tart Japanese I am used to and very mayonnaise-y as well. Unmemorable but does the job. In terms of other veggies, none I can see in the roll but there was a lettuce leaf serving as a bed for the beef teriyaki and a slice of tomato on that.
The Beef Teriyaki was incredibly disappointing. It was dry and overcooked and had grill lines on it but moved and tasted more like a flash frozen beef thawed and heated for mass distribution. The teriyaki sauce was poured on top of the beef but was not cooked into the meat in any way. Is it supposed to be? I don't know but it could have made it better since the beef was tough and chewy and relatively flavorless. Lifeless. The portion of meat looked small for my tastes although the total of the meal was more than enough and left me full when finished. The Beef teriyaki felt... sad. If it was cooked from a slice of raw beef, even cooking it a little less could have made it better. The rice was plentiful, and cooked well. It was more than you'd need.
The meal also came with a portion of miso soup and the flavor of miso soup varies wildly through different sushi restaurants. I don't know how appropriate this is but the initial flavor reminded me of a Vietnamese Che dessert but settled as noticeably miso... yet different somehow. Large pieces of seaweed that looked like leaves, uncut, and small cubes of tofu. The portion seemed sizable and came in a plastic container and was well packaged.
I have never eaten here and don't know what a fresh served meal at their restaurant would be like, but for a takeout, it is not satisfying. Very neatly delivered and assembled but I'd much rather have ugly and yummy. This was like eating a baseline acceptable offering and I would not get excited about a bento box from here again, but this is a single sitting. I would not turn it down because it was not bad, it just wasn't... good.
2 stars because it was acceptable but really, it is closer to a 2.5 but I can't round up given this experience. Would not recommend the to go bento box if allowed to age to any significant amount of time, but the in restaurant may be worth it? Maybe I'll find out someday. Today... the out of restaurant experience was...
Read moreSpent $100 for this experience. For the fifth time senro sushi messed up my order. We ordered through doordash and someone either the driver or senro sushi forgot to include my vegetarian udon. Keep in mind that prior to ordering I called the restuarant, since we have a history of them messing up our orders, to confirm my order. I understand we are going through a difficult time with the pandemic but prior to the pandemic, senro sushi had a history of getting my orders wrong. I received a call from the restaurant with the employee stating that the driver didn't wait for my udon then she changed her story and said the driver only picked up one bag and missed my udon. She started they contacted doordash to have another driver deliver. Then I got a call from doordash stating I had to call a special number to get my order situation resolved. When I became frustrated the doordash person hung up on me instead of transferring me to her manager as I requested. Then I called Senro and the employee who picked up told me it was not their fault because I didn't do an phone order despite calling the restuarant to verify my order since Senro sushi tends to always have missing or wrong items. This is the last stra and I have given this restaurant many opportunities (prior to COVID) to get it right. I will no longer be supporting this business...
Read moreI just ate here with my husband for lunch. We give five stars for the atmosphere and the food. The food was delicious and very fresh. However, the service was not so great so we give that a one if anything. We sat down and did not get drinks for about 20 minutes or even a hello from our waitress. We had to flag down the busboy to ask him who our waitress was and to grab her for us. During our meal, she did not check up on us at all and did not fill up our drinks until way later (they were empty for about 40 minutes). When she finally did bring water, she only gave my husband water and not me. We waited another 10 minutes to flag her down for my drink. Then when we were trying to find our waitress so that we could order two more rolls and a dessert, she just came by and dropped off our bill. We ended up not getting any more food because of this. My husband and I usually tip about 20% for good service and 25% for excellent service, but they were lucky that we even tipped 10% since it was so terrible. We actually only wanted to tip the sushi chefs for they did a really good job with the food. Unfortunately, we will not be...
