Pupusería & Restaurant El Águila — Restaurant in San Jose

I think the 5 star reviews are their friends and family. I ordered food to-go but didn't eat it. While I was waiting for the food inside, I had a very bad impression and lost my appetite. Place was a little dirty and sticky. They lack basic hygene. The waiters and cooks weren't wearing masks eithet. The kitchen area is hidden around the corner behind the register(always be cautious buying food from somewhere when you cant see if the kitchen is clean). As soon as my order was taken and the money was handled, she took off her mask and went to the kitchen without washing her hands. The waitresses were hanging out laughing and talking in the kitchen area too. They ALL entered and exited the kitchen area with no masks, no hair nets, no gloves, no aprons and no washed hands. For months I was craving pupusas, and then, yesterday, "I found" this place, and IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT.

Its menu is wide and varied, including its Aguas Frescas. They also have a lovely patio area; I recommend you have your meal there. The staff is friendly, and the place is clean.

I enjoyed: Loroco pupusa (Salvadoran vegetables with cheese) Jalapeños pupusa (jalapeños and cheese) Beans pupusa Chicharrón pupusa (pork) Revuelta pupusa (pork, beans and cheese) Agua de maracuya Sangría

Bonus: they do not limit you to the amount of salsa or curtido (vegetables) that accompany the pupusas. They bring you the bottle of salsa and a plate, not a small container, with the curtido.

Unfortunately I didn't even get an opportunity to even try their food. Their website & their front door, clearly states that they open at 9am. My father & I got their at 9am. My dad said that their door was locked. I called (to let them know we were customers ready to come in) and the female that answered the phone said that they didn't open until 9:30. I asked why are they advertising that they open at 9 and she just hung up on me. Wow!! If this is how they treat people over the phone, who's to say how they treat people in person.
