By far the best and well rounded meal we had in Puerto Rico. The great variety of down-to-earth dishes, in-depth flavors and variety of textures and amazing value in a setting filled with predominantly locals put El Obrero to the top of my list. I ordered the goat fricasé but I’m sure anything fricasé in this place tastes great. I literally cleaned up my plate and mopped any remaining of the curry with the bread. Tried the patitas guisadas and were very good. It has a gelatinous texture to it. Similarly in texture but different flavoring was the mondongo soup which was also good. Rice and beans sides were cooked to perfection. While you wait, they give you pillowy soft bread and option of slices of large and ripe avocados. The beers are super cold to the perfect almost slushy cold that’s super refreshing for a hot day. Our waiter was very polite, caring with a bold attitude, in a good way.

Go have lunch at EL OBRERO, an excellent, authentic, no-frills, local eatery. I went especially for the MONDONGO (tripe stew) and also had rice and beans side and ice cold Medalla beer. The dishes ordered at tables near me all looked delicious as well, so I'll definitely be back for the gandinga, higado, and cabrito fricase. There is high volume take-away service, but sit and order at a table if you are dining in. It can get a bit crowded at peak lunchtime, so maybe go a bit later, 2 PM or so. Highly recommended!

We wanted to visit this restaurant and find out if the hype was right. I want to think we were unfortunate at lunch and some other time we can come back and have better luck. The Fricasé de Cabro was 90% bones and fat. The fried plantains not so good. The server forgot the other plate in the order and brought Chicharrones de Pollo instead of what we originally ordered which was the Rebosada de Pollo. The salad was fresh and delicious. Btw, the order took way too long and the restaurant was not full.

This is a 5-Start dining place not because it's an expensive posh restaurant where they serve you a gigantic plate with a tiny ration at the middle and you stay hungry. This is the place to eat local delicious food that makes you wanna come back over and over again. It's not a big building with luxury. It has its own parking lot which is a plus in that area. If you want to eat, practically anything of the local menu, at a great price and leave the place with a full belly... this is the place! I fully recommend this place if you wanna taste the best of Puerto Rican food around. This place has been operating for a gazillion years for a good reason,...
