I don’t know how to begin, but I really want to write a honest review so it helps the business for improvement and share my thoughts with future customers on what to expect when coming to this place.
I visited on a busy weekend night and got seated relatively fast as people come and go at this type of cafe setting. The atmosphere was good. The place was spacious. However, the plastic chairs at the table felt kinda cheap. The menu had this 16-pixels graphic feel and the list felt kinda limited for a HK cafe.
The food came at a relatively normal speed. First thing I noticed was they were using plastic plate to hold baked items served in ceramic dish. Again, felt cheap and the food could slip off if not careful when being placed. The taste was just OK. It didn’t taste authentic enough. I felt like the ingredients were just mixed together in a hurry. I didn’t find any wow factors in all the items we ordered (sorry didn’t take picture but they were smaller size in portion compared to other places.) The milk tea was definitely overpriced for that size. You can easily get double the volume outside for a lesser price. (Grand opening certainly didn’t give any perks) we also had the curry fishballs (signature HK cafe dish) and for that size it was, again, overpriced. If I spent that same amount at the next door Chinese restaurant, it would’ve been a pretty decent meal.
The waiters/waitresses were emotionless and didn’t seem too excited about their job. The place was definitely busy so I’d give them a pass, and that’s expected for this type of setting. But it is GRAND OPENING, I didn’t feel too welcomed especially since we ordered a good amount of food cuz we wanted to try out everything.
I’ve eaten at other HK cafe in SL, CV, OAK Chinatown, Tri-Valley, Fremont, you name it all around the Bay Area. I’ve tried their Union City location about 4 years ago but I felt the food quality and taste were not too bad. I don’t buy the “inflation” excuse for the portion of the food.
Trust me, I was thrilled to have another HK cafe nearby since the plaza was recently renovated. It’s good for the neighborhood and businesses around. Did I have too high of an expectation? I think they have some things to figure out before I...
Read moreThis Baby Cafe was opened for about 2 months in this location. I came here on a Sunday. Two people waiting in line was quite faster than more than 2 people. I only waited for 20 mins which was great. The parking lot is quite large enough to have spaces during rush hours. This place, I have to say, has the coolest interior decoration. It has a pleasant atmosphere. They were busy as hell but continued to maintain decent customer services with a good attitude.
Since it's called HK Bistro, the food and drinks should have decent quality that could match up with HK. The very first thing that caught my eye was the baked wasabi chicken and I had to give a try. My girlfriend liked the classic which was baked spaghetti. Of course baked stuff need to take longer. The spaghetti came first and I tried a couple of bites. The sauce was quite tasty. It's not too salty or cheesy. I gave it 4.1/5. Then the wasabi chicken came. The taste of wasabi made this food interesting. I think the amount of wasabi was added evenly so it wouldn't be too strong or weak. However, I only tasted the wasabi and I think the food was missing a bit flavor like adding a bit of salt. If I say it's missing salt, it tastes quite plain. This baked wasabi chicken was just with wasabi taste and creamy sauce. I gave it 3.5/5. We also ordered hot milk tea which cost 4.95. The cold one is about 5.95. I can tell you that it's a bit pricey for the cold one because they use skinny tall cups with ice and the amount of it is too little. When I drank the milk tea, I only could taste the tea and a bit milk, but no sugar. There was no sugar placed on the table, so the sugar should be added already. The quality of this milk tea, to me, didn't meet my standard or perhaps HK standard. Sorry. I had to give this for 3/5. We also wanted to try the French toast, which was like 10 bucks. As you can the size of it... it's quite small and it's just mediocre. Personally speaking, I wouldn't get it again especially for 10 bucks.
The quality of food and drink seems to need improvement. I may come back again to try other stuff later...
Read moreDelicious Taste of Hong Kong in San Leandro - Highly Recommended! Baby Cafe in San Leandro is a fantastic addition to the local food scene, offering a delightful experience with its authentic Hong Kong-style fast food. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are efficient and always ready with a smile, making you feel right at home. The food itself is the star of the show. On my recent visit, I tried their 干炒牛河 (Dry Beef Chow Fun) and the 海南雞 (Hai Nan Chicken), and both were exceptional. The 干炒牛河 was packed with flavor and had that wonderful "wok hey" – the slightly charred aroma and taste that comes from stir-frying at high heat – which is a hallmark of great Cantonese cooking. The portion of beef was generous and tender. The 海南雞 was also a standout. The chicken was incredibly moist and flavorful, and it came with a fragrant rice that complemented it perfectly. It's clear that Baby Cafe pays attention to the quality and preparation of their dishes. Beyond the excellent food, the service is also noteworthy. Even when I forgot to request utensils with my order, the kind lady at the cashier happily provided them and gently reminded me to select that option in the future. It's these small touches that make a big difference in the overall dining experience. Whether you're looking for a quick and tasty lunch or a satisfying dinner, Baby Cafe is a must-try in San Leandro. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you receive. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of their menu and highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic and delicious Hong Kong-style food. Don't miss out...
