Yuppie Cantina — Restaurant in San Mateo

This place USED TO BE GREAT before the new owner. The atmosphere and service is terrible. The servers are constantly offering you more and more drinks seeing that you haven’t finished the first drink. Even when you let them know you’re not drinking they continue to push drinks on you. The minute you walk in & i truly mean the minute you walk in, you cant even choose where you sit, they are in your face asking you what you want to drink and trying to sit you at a specific table. The servers are also drinking on the job and get extremely drunk, To the point where they fall over on you and even on your table. They don't cut people off when they see that they are getting belligerently drunk. This leads to the cops constantly being called. One of the servers was upset that we paid with card instead of cash, leading me to believe i wasn't going to receive my full change back. We also witnessed the servers dancing up all over men to get them to pay for the drinks they (the servers) were drinking. The bartender and servers pry over the drunk men on purpose and charge multiple drinks to their tab or take their change without them knowing. This is how they are constantly getting drunk on the job. It also looks like theres a separate party going on in the bathroom with the amount of times the same people go back there. The security guard outside is nice and seems to do his job well but the one that stays inside is also drinking on the job and he’s more focused on flirting with the servers than actually keeping people in check/safe. Overall, i can see some very terrible things happening in this establishment and I hope the owner can get a handle on it because I would hate to hear about a sad situation...

The bartender skipped over our party to server another party that came in while we were waiting for her to take our order. She was very slow at making a cocktail and was not very personable even for a dive bar. When we finally got our drinks, a drunk guy started harassing the ladies in our party and was overtly staring at them and even tried to approach them. The staff did nothing to help and kept serving the guy even though he could barely stand. We ended up just finishing our drinks quickly and took our business elsewhere. We will obviously never go back to that place. I'm not sure why there were so many good reviews but beware of these generic reviews praising the bartenders by name. These seem to be friends of the staff leaving five star reviews with...

Cool place. Authentic dive bar unlike other retro dive places. Both bartenders we very nice and energetic. They offer beers by the pint or mug which is a bit bigger but they'll assume mug unless you specify first. Couple pool tables in the back and blaring classic rock music. Jello shots at $2 each or 3 for $5 which are tasty. Big selection of chips, jerky and peanuts for a fair...
