we visited this places yesterday. We walked in and set down. We sat their for about 5 minutes. Our waitress looks at us walks away goes to the door to look out the window. Hardly anyone inside. She then walks to the table. Hands us open menus. She didn’t ask if we wanted anything to drink. So we proceeded to let her know what we wanted and asked for chips. We looked over the menu and was ready to order. I ordered the pollo loco ($7.99) , my husband ordered the mexican burger ($7.99) + $1.50 for bacon and also got the steak fajita nachos ($9.99) . The food don’t get me wrong was fantastic . However the service was horrible. She never asked us for a refill. We had to find her to ask for the check. We got the check and paid. I noticed that each item we ordered was $1 more then price on the menu. I proceed to ask why it was extra. She then proceed to go up to the front to grab 1 menu tgey had that we did not receive that on the front says due to food shortage “some” items may be $1.25 extra.. So i asked her why she failed to let us know and gave us menus that didn’t state that? She had no answer. and just kept pointing at the menu she didn’t give us as they only have one. Imagine how many people are being over charged without knowing. I let her know that was her too and refused to pay a cent more . Will not return regardless of how...
Read moreAs a person who lived in S.TX for 25 years I’m often very reluctant to try Mexican food elsewhere. Having stayed next door at the neighboring hotel once before I wanted to walk for my dinner and this was the only non-franchised option within walking distance.
In the end I was very surprised by not only the excellent food, but also the service, really diverse menu, and the atmosphere.
Sitting at the bar I had pleasure of talking to both Bartender and the Owner Pablo who did educate me they are tied to a slightly larger small independent group that owns 10 stores in total but this was his personally.
All in the price of meal was tremendous value, and the chips and dip they give for table was delicious and slightly spicier than avg, just perfect in my opinion.
All in the place was very well run and super clean, I think all a testament to the hands on owner who was doing a little bit of everything while caring for both customers and staff.
PS I did notice a lot of the bad reviews seemed to be from folks with only one or two reviews, usually this to me is a dead give away they are fake reviews and usually just a upset ex employee or possibly worse a...
Read morePapa’s and Beer is the Real MVP I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express behind this spot and asked the front desk where to get real Mexican food. Without missing a beat, they said, “Papa’s and Beer.” Not a suggestion—a statement. And now? I get it.
I walked in expecting a decent meal. I walked out with a flavor bomb, a food coma, and leftovers that fed me THREE MORE TIMES. That’s not dinner. That’s meal prep with a mariachi soundtrack.
They served me: ✔️ Steak cooked in a cast iron skillet so good it should come with a warning label ✔️ Sautéed veggies that tasted like they marinated in flavor gospel ✔️ 6 tortillas, beans, rice, cheese, guac, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, and even avocado slices — all under $50 ✔️ Enough love in that food to start a telenovela
They cook like your abuela has something to prove. Papa’s and Beer? They’re on another level.
10/10. Would fight someone in the parking lot for the last...
