Hunan — Restaurant in Sanford

This underappreciated little gem should be talked about more. We started going there during COVID and although they have a beautiful dining room, they have primarily perfected their to-go/pick-up service. The food is really good - better than most here in Sanford. They have some really amazing dishes and some that assume would be good but contain so much sugar that it hides the good flavors. The womain who is there most of the time is always nice and super efficient. Whenever I'm there to pick up food or we're sitting in the dining room they always seem to be busy with to-go orders. The dining room is comfortable and the lady is very attentive. All orders are served in to-go containers so cleanup is a breeze and you can take anything you want to-go that you don't eat. Most of the time we take leftovers - the portions are really big and the food is just sooo good! Can't wait to place our next order and get special...

I went to Hunan last night 1-17-19 for some Brocolli and Beef and egg rolls. First problem was they don't sale shrimp or pork egg rolls!! Ok fine. I get my beef and brocolli and go home to dig in because this is what I was craving. I get home pop open the box and the beef doesn't look like beef. It was very flimsy and thin. I bite into on piece and it was very chewy, like under cooked chewy. So I pull just the brocolli and the carrots from the box because I wasn't sure about the beef. I asked for the brocolli and carrots to be cooked just a little longer to soften them a bit. Well I bite into to broccoli, carrots and fried rice and it was all CRUNCHY. Yes, the fried rice was crunchy. I still can't figure out what kind of "BEEF" that was. My dinner was a waste of $10. I won't eat there again. What Chinese restuarant doesn't have...

Fast friendly service. Doesn't take Amex. Chicken with Mixed Chinese Vegetables Lunch Special and a small Hot N Sour Soup came out to over $9 for very small portions. Fried rice looked like plain brown rice - no bits of egg, carrots, or peas. Egg roll was a nice size but overcooked and hard. The main was swimming in brown sauce. Expecting Chinese vegetables (as opposed to their standard mixed vegetables), there was no bok choy, greens of any type, Chinese broccoli, etc. Just carrots, broccoli, and the typical american mixed vegetables. Flavor was nice but the limp veggies swimming in the overly sweet brown sauce killed it for me. Hot n Sour Soup better than average.
