Before I ramble on about how much I love this place after just one visit, let me make it simple: The food is a solid 10 out of 10. It’s 100% worth the drive. Whether you’re 30, 45 minutes, or even an hour away. Go try it. You won’t regret it.
Now, for the part where I can’t help but share more.
Pepper Belly BBQ is exactly what makes Texas special. It’s easy to get caught up in the giant, flashy BBQ joints with 3,000 square feet of space and 120 employees charging four times the price, but this is the opposite of that, in the best way possible.
It’s a humble little trailer that’s been retrofitted into a smokehouse, and everything is done on-site, by hand, by heart. It’s mom-and-pop, small-town, real-deal BBQ. The kind of place you want to support, not just because it’s small business, but because the people behind it are genuinely wonderful.
I had the chance to meet the owner, chat about his life, his wife, concerts, music, you name it. We’re probably 30 or 40 years apart, but we connected in a way that’s rare these days. That alone made the visit feel special.
And the food? Generous is an understatement. The portions are massive, the flavors are rich and deep, and you can tell there’s pride in every plate. Whether you get one, two, or three meats, you’re walking away with more than you expected, both in food and in experience.
Pepper Belly BBQ reminded me that the best things in life often come from the most unassuming places. Next time I’m craving BBQ, I’m not going to the spot down the road. I’m driving 45 minutes north, because this is the kind of place, and the kind of people, I...
Read moreI’m not exaggerating when I say this was the best BBQ of my life. Everything about the experience was top-notch—from the food to the atmosphere to the amazing owner who made me feel right at home while I was passing through this area.
I had the brisket sandwich, and WOW. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with that perfect smoky flavor, stacked high on a soft piece of bread that held it all together like a champ. The sides were just as impressive—creamy mac and cheese, flavorful beans, and a potato salad that tasted like it came straight from a backyard cookout (the kind you never want to leave).
What really put it over the top, though, was the owner. Super friendly, genuinely welcoming, and clearly passionate about his food. He didn’t just serve a meal—he created an experience.
If you’re even thinking about BBQ, stop what you’re doing and go here. You’ll be talking about it for days. I...

Pepper Belly BBQ serves up traditional BBQ prepared to perfection! Visible smoke ring on the brisket which was also tender and moist. Pulled pork did not disappoint. Mac & Cheese was extra creamy. Beans were delicious with generous bites of bacon. Topped off with Texas Toast. Owner Leonard serves up a pleasantly spicy homemade BBQ sauce with his extra spicy personality. Truly a wonderful stop that was busy with...
