We know Papa D’s just opened, so my hope is to update this review in the future with a better experience.

To start with the good — my swirl was delicious and so pretty! The queso was good as well, but we originally ordered queso blanco and were told they were out, so we went with the other option. About 15 minutes later, the queso blanco showed up anyway, and we had to tell them we already had the other queso. That was disappointing, especially after the waitress hyped up how good the queso blanco was.

I liked the red salsa because I prefer mild salsa, but my husband didn’t like it since it had no spice. The combo fajitas, unfortunately, were a miss. The chicken was chewy and had no flavor, and the beef was also chewy, fatty, and flavorless. The potato wedges had no seasoning at all — just bland. Tortillas were good though, as was the guacamole. Charro beans were tasty, but the rice was cold.

My husband ordered the mole enchiladas thinking they were just beef enchiladas (his mistake), and he said they were “alright.” The refried black beans were watery and tasteless.

I’m only writing this review because I want them to succeed. We truly wanted to like it — we love Uncle Beto’s and were excited to try Papa D’s since it’s closer to home. We’ll be back eventually to try different menu items, but it might be a while.

Decorations and ambiance were great, and the place was very clean. However, it was hot where we were sitting because the sun was directly on our table. We were literally sweating, which made it uncomfortable. I told the waitress they should consider top curtains for that area.

All in all, we see potential here, but there’s a lot of room for...

Absolutely terrible experience.

We arrived and were told there would be a 1.5 hour wait, which we were completely fine with we understood it was opening day and expected some delays.

But what followed was nearly 2 hours of being ignored, watching other parties who arrived after us get seated and served. Not once did we get a proper update, an apology, or even basic acknowledgment. Every time we politely checked in, we were brushed off with. “Just a few more minutes.”

Eventually, it became clear something was wrong. When we checked again, we were told after all that time that we were never even added to the waitlist. The hostess flat-out admitted we weren’t on the list at all. Still, we remained patient. Half our party had already left by then, but we were told the wait would now be shorter.

Finally, when they said they were cleaning up a table for us, the manager came over to inform us that the kitchen was out of food and they wouldn’t be able to serve us at all.

Let that sink in nearly two hours of waiting. completely ignored, then told we weren’t even on the list, and after all of that no food.

It’s one thing to be overwhelmed on opening day. It’s another to completely disregard your customers and show no accountability for basic mistakes. We were patient and understanding until it was clear that the staff simply didn’t care.

If this is how guests are treated before being seated, I can only imagine how poorly things go at the table.

We won’t be back. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being ignored, and...

Papa D’s Mexican Cuisine in Sanger, Texas is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that proprietor Diego Puga has put his heart and soul into every detail. The menu isn’t just good, it’s thoughtfully crafted, offering dishes that delight and tickle the taste buds in every way.

The food is amazing, full of flavor and intention in every bite. It’s not your standard Mexican restaurant you can tell that every item has been carefully considered and executed with pride.

The drinks deserve special mention as well. They go well beyond the typical margarita menu, offering creative, well-balanced combinations that surprise and impress. One standout is the old-fashioned margarita a cocktail I never would’ve imagined could work, yet somehow Diego and his team make it work flawlessly. It’s a drink that challenges expectations and delivers something memorable.

Overall, Papa D’s is more than just a place to eat, it’s an experience that reflects Diego Puga’s vision, creativity, and commitment to excellence. If you’re anywhere near Sanger, this is a spot you absolutely...

The restaurant is pretty and looks pretty nice and clean. Service it’s ok. We asked for a Molcajete which in the menu explains more less the content of it. At the moment that the waitress brought our order my wife noticed that something was missing so we ask the waitress and yes, she said it missing some of the main components of the molcajete plate. She said that they run out of that particular part of the plate. So they tried to hide the mistake or they truthfully did not noticed. But still . Then on top of that “mistake “ the beef and the chicken that supposedly come as main part of the molcajete plate. They were 4 very, very thin slices of beef and also 4 slices of chicken the same very, very thin. ( no more than four oz. Of beff and chicken. 2 big shrimps and some chorizo with cheese and very little veggies. Very poor serving plate. For the modest amount of 42 dlls. That’s unarmed robbery . Thanks but not thanks
