After watching the burrito episode of Taco Chronicles on Netflix which featured this place, I headed straight there, almost by involuntary motion-- I had no choice but to indulge in these mouthwatering creations. And boy, did it NOT disappoint. You need to know the size of these burritos makes it so you'll want to order more than one (admittedly, I eat 3-4 at a time!), and their prices make that a totally reasonable indulgence. I think priciest birria "con todo" is $4.25 and comes with the traditional stewed beef, their trademark, creamy, lard-richened beans and cheese, swaddled in an AMAZING house-made flour tortilla. Pro tip: Get an order of tortillas to go, you'll eat them plain even throughout the week. There isn't one burrito on this menu that will disappoint but my favorites are the deshebrada (juicy shredded beef, green chile, and potato)-- I add cheese to this one even though it doesn't need a damn thing. The birria con todo, as described above, and the simple bean and cheese. The way these burritos are packaged for takeaway (no on site dining provided- no problem!) make it so you can eat the burritos at your leisure and even the next day. Zero sogginess, zero greasiness, excellent hot, lukewarm, or reheated. The salsa it's served with is perfection. I'm totally addicted to this place and have a hard time staying away. It's a once a visit, period! Staff are super friendly and the place is clean, clean, clean and fast to serve you up. Tip well, this place...

Okay so when I visited there was construction on the street by the entrance so there was only one entrance. You have to come from the north to turn in. Limited parking because of this. But it seems to run pretty smoothly.
I found a burritos to be a perfect size in fact I could even finish two, but I'm a very small eater I have friends who could eat burritos the size of a baby's thigh so they probably would like to get five or six of these for a meal. There were burritos are comprable in size to that of the average, uh, male appendage in America.
Prices are so affordable and the staff is super super nice. I'd like to give kudos to the man who correctly pointed out my time that my food and be ready to like the minute. During the busiest time of the day.
They do run sometimes run out of certain burrito meat on busy days (which is everyday) so come earlier than later. Especially if you want the stewed beef one, that one's just ohmygod delish!
The tortillas are thicker and a really perfect texture just super delicious. Kind of seemed like a thick lefse to me, but that's my Norwegian bias.
It was worth the trip from LA to OC......
Read moreThis place is the epitome of what is possible when you get a simple dish perfectly right in every detail. The signature faux birria burrito here is perfection wrapped in a tortilla. It starts with the tortilla actually, one of the few handmade flour ones you'll find around here. Then the stew, which is beef not goat, perfectly prepared. There are no ingredients in the burrito besides the beef and whatever spices it's stewed in, and anything else would be a distraction. These are small burritos, they have a combo that includes three of them with a Mexican Coke. That's actually a lot of food, so you'll leave full, but at least for me, two would not be quite enough. I love the birria burrito so much that I haven't even tried anything else on the menu yet, though I'm sure that's all good too. Finally, everyone here is friendly as hell, from the owner to the people working in the back to the lady on the cash register. They make us feel really welcome every time we walk in the place, which isn't necessarily the norm in a hole in the wall like this (though it should be). I don't have enough words to praise Burritos La Palma sufficiently. Just...
