This is really hard to write without coffee. Everything about this establishment is ordinarily exceptional. However, I had a poor experience this morning and feel inclined to share.
A good friend and I were leaving town bright and early as we made our beginning on a 12+ hour road trip. As we all know, java (perhaps even more so than gasoline) is the essential fuel for such an endeavor. Making an early start, we got on the road around 6:30 and arrived at the shop at 6:53.
When we reached the door, we noticed that the Sunday opening hour (7 a.m.) is different from the usual hour, which is 6. Initially dismayed, we thought that–if we could catch the attention of the barista who was opening up–perhaps we might be in luck for a quick cup of coffee, even though we were seven minutes before the official opening.
Fortunately, she (a young woman sporting a dark multicolored headband) noticed us, making eye contact with me. I waved to her, signaling that we wanted to talk. She ignored me and continued her opening work. Continuing to glance out sporadically, she made no acknowledgement of our presence. I continued to wave, and she glared at me. The gaze was dehumanizing.
I love the coffee here, but this woman needs to go.
EDIT: perhaps a bit rash. I do not want this woman's employment to be terminated due to a single error in service. However, management should speak with her about this aspect of customer service, that even if your establishment is still opening and there is a strict policy by which you serve no one before the official hour, you must still go and speak with someone waiting by the door, especially when it's cold outside, as it was this morning. Thanks...
Read moreOMG!!!! What a warm and caring coffee house. David the owner is hands on and greets his customers when they come through the door. Java Joe's coffee house has been here in town for over a decade serving up a cheerful smile and brew in each and every cup of Java. While they are located on the southside on Rodeo road they are worth the trip. I am not the only one who finds this cafe a favorite place to come for coffee. It's always busy when I walk in, lots of folks camped out in and outside, enjoying a nice relaxing moment with a cup of Java in their hands. David also cares about who produced his coffee and he always buys coffee that is fair trade which financially supports the growers and their families.
Want to have a great cup of coffee, relax and enjoy the polite courteous service in the Southside of town? Then head on over to Java Joe's you won't be disappointed!!
IF on the other hand you want the worst experience you could possibly imagine well then head on over to the place owned by the Koffee Nazi - Tom Frost - of BetterDay Coffee - which is an oxymoron for sure.. It's never a betterday when you have to deal with that guy TOM FROST and his attitude.. I can't begin to tell you all the horror stories me and my friends have experienced there over the past year... his nazi coffee is not worth the abuse and attitude he will put you through to get served.. STAY AWAY FROM THE KOFFEE NAZI - TOM FROST - AND HIS CERTAINLY NOT BETTERDAY COFFEE!! especially when there are so many more truly excellent and better tasting...
Read moreThis place is a joke. There were three cars in front of me and it took 18 minutes for me to have my order (croissant and a plain coffee) in my hand. The food and coffee are totally bleh. Not even as good as something you could get at starbucks with much less of a wait. I was patient because I figured they were probably severely understaffed, then I pull up to the window to find four different employees working behind the counter. The baristas are basically all rude, entitled white women who think they automatically deserve a tip for doing essentially what a mcdonalds employee does. The prices are ridiculously high and instead of politely allowing the customers to tip how they see fit, the girl at the window just swipes your credit card then asks "would you like to leave one, two or three dollars?". Why would I tip you anything for making terrible food that takes all day to make? Completely ridiculous. Pay your employees properly so they don't have to act as if they're dying of hunger. We're seeing this all over Santa Fe these days. Restaurant owners that are too cheap to give their workers a living wage, and the workers being forced to use these terrible point of sale systems that allow the customer no privacy or determination over...
