Update 2024: very friendly and attentive waitstaff. ZA is still very good.
Update 2023: friendly and accommodating waitstaff.
Update 2020. They have gotten there act back together. We continue to bring friends and relatives from-away there and they are never disappointed with the meals.
The food is great, a 5 star for sure. We go there (Scarborough) often and our friends and family from away usually ask to go there when they are up visiting. Be careful, however, when you buy gift certificates online at Christmas. Don't do it online; do it in person at the restaurant. They usually offer $5 free for every $25 purchased. But........ in the last year, we have twice tried to redeem the free $5 ones only to find out they were already marked as a zero balance (out $10) . We never ask for redeemed cards back and just leave them with the waitstaff, so there is no way we could be giving them one that we already used. Thus, I would recommend that you ask the cashier to check each and every certificate after you buy them to make sure that they are truly activated.
Update: (12/16/17) Scarborough, again! The food is still a 5 but the service last night was a zero to a one. It was a Saturday; it was a week before Christmas; and there was a big sale going on at the major retail store, the draw to that shopping plaza. Was there ample service staff on hand to handle the crowd? NO! Was this the first pre-Christmas week that we experienced this lack of service? NO! If this was our first experience at PP, it would have been our last. Over 2 hours to get menus, beverages, our meal, and the check. The restaurant was half full when we arrived but we had to wait before we could be seated as all the open tables were cluttered with prior guests dirty plates, utensils, napkins, etc. They are called busboys or busgirls, eh! We had a guest with us so we stayed; otherwise we would have left as we could see a rerun of the past Christmas visit. We felt soooo bad for the young couple near us, with a baby. Did you ever try to keep a baby patient for over an hour before you get your food. We truly hope that management corrects this and stays on top of their game. Poor service does not foster...
Read moreWe live in Lewiston, but if you’re ever in Scarborough it’s worth the trip as long as Shannon is your waitress. This is a pizza joint but Shannon is the best waitress I’ve had, at any restaurant, anywhere, period. We took my mother in law and toddler to the restaurant and her attitude just shines, first thing you notice. She’s just a joy. She happily helped my older mother in law, who was overwhelmed with the menu (she’s struggling these days with memory and fogginess) and made her favorite recommendations, asked if I wanted lemon with my tea as if I was in her home kitchen, asked about the time spacing of our appetizers from the meal, checked in multiple times without rushing us, noticed the staff hadn’t brought a kids meal and they didn’t have any printed but she remembered the menu by heart, said she’d check out back if they had printed coloring sheets, brought everything out in a timely fashion, laughed with us, asked if we were sure we didn’t want more water when people said no desserts and then changed their minds, brought spoons for everyone without having to be asked because the one dessert MIL ordered was enormous, asked how we liked everything, which is normal I know, but I don’t know, it’s hard to find people so damn good at their job in service work like this anymore. Portland Pie... hang onto this one. She’s something special and made or...
Read morePortland Pie is generally great, but my patience has expired with THIS LOCATION. I was originally told to call Scarborough a while back when the Portland location was swamped. It is only 1.2 miles further from me than the Portland location, easier traffic and parking, what could go wrong? Well, alot apparently. Like other reviews have pointed out, you end up standing around waiting in there just to get a person to actually get you a slice or to pickup a call-in order... But the final straw was tonight when I got delivery for the last time; their "40 minutes" is usually significantly more than 40, but after 80 minutes I had to assume they lost my order so I called asking for the manager. He explained, after a curt appology, that 3 pizzas went out and that mine would be here within 15 minutes. "Luke warm" is a generous description of my $27 pizza 90+ minutes after the order... Another 20 minutes later and I could "enjoy" my home oven reheated pizza; It is like the "leftovers" experience only without all the hassle of first enjoying the fresh food you paid for! Or maybe it's more like "gourmet" frozen pizza, only it's much more expensive and instead of 25 minutes it takes almost 2 hours! No thanks,...
