Sprig has become a neighborhood favorite that is an absolute hidden gem of a restaurant.
We found this place about 8 months ago when we were headed home from the office in downtown Atlanta. It was a Friday night and was getting late and rather than heading all the way home to change out out work clothes and then try to find dinner we chose to try out Sprig. The online ratings sounded good and with $$ figured the food would be of a higher quality.
We chose wisely and were plesantly surprised how quaint the place is. We were greeted by the hostess and shown to a table promptly in the center of diningroom. The patio was closed at it was quite cold out being a late January night. Ryan was our server and promptly told us the specials of the evening, along with drink specialities they are uniquely known for pouring.
We opted to order a bottle of wine from their wine selection instead. For our entrees we ordered one of the specials which was a grilled Seabass and a Fresh Rainbow Trout each with a variety of side dishes that we would share. We were truly blown away with the great service and both quality and quantity of food served. So we knew that we would be returning customers.
So when my parents decided to stop by and visit for the weekend, we knew would take them to Sprig. This night Ryan greeted us and showed us to table on the patio where we could enjoy a cool summer night. Pete our server greeted us quickly with some water and told us the special for the night.
For starters for the table we ordered the deepfried deviled eggs as an appetizer along with some beers and signature cocktails. For dinner my parents ordered some of the CAB Burgers with mixed green salads instead of fries. It is not listed on their menu, but you can sub a mixed greens side salad for any vegetable. I went with the Pork Chop with Grilled Peaches and my wife again had the Rainbow Trout, as it is THAT good.
Pete, the young gentleman who was our server tonight and he too was great like Ryan. Pete gave several drink recommendations as well as meal sugestions as my parents were a bit undecided. Now don't think the burgers are just a regular old burger, oh contraire. They were absolutely delicious! Juicy and cooked perfectly. They use only Certifed Angus Beef that is never frozen and sourced from locally raised farms. As well Sprig gets all of their meat, fish, and produce from locally sourced farms and ranches. So they are a local Farm to Table experience.
So if you live on the east side of the city of Atlanta close to Decatur, Buckhead, or Brookhaven and want to be treated to great food, great service, without the crowds, you need to dine at Sprig. Oh and if you're afficiando of Bourbons, Rye, Whiskey, or Scotches then be sure to check out their monthly Brown Liquor event. It is a members only club, but anyone 21 or older can join and best thing is your first 2oz pour is free with membership.
One cool thing about Sprig is the close proximity to the Vista Room music venue. The VR is owned by the owner of the other restaurant Napoleons located at the opposite end of the Vista Grove Plaza. So you can grab a delicious meal at Sprig and then grab some live music and make a whole evening with your friends,...
Read moreGreat experience. We had a reservation for a larger party (6 adults, 4 young children) for Saturday dinner. My contingent was running late, as usual (I have a wife and 2 small daughters, iykyk), but the staff very graciously sat the punctual members of our party and got them started with drinks until we arrived.
We were seated in a huge, gorgeous (teal velvet?) booth in the back of the dining room, perfect for our rambunctious, though well, behaved kids (young cousins, 3,4,5,6 yrs old, always fun and exciting) to move around without disturbing other guests, while the adults talked and ate. It was very comfortable.
Service: 9/10. Our server was very good. I hate that I can't remember her name (sorry if you're reading this). The support staff was present and helpful also.
Food: Appetizers: Fried Green Tomatoes were Incredible: 10/10, best I've ever had; Brussels were Great (not my thing personally, but the Brussels fans enjoyed them): 8/10; Crawfish Bisque was Excellent: 9/10, Ahi Tostadas were Great: 8/10 (huge portion, incredible value could rate them 10/10 if factored in).
Entrees: Lamb Stroganoff (crowd favorite by majority, though not mine) Incredible: 10/10; Salmon (wife's order, she didn't care for the corn pudding but I loved it, both agreed the fish was fantastic) Excellent: 9/10; Pistachio Crusted Trout (my order) Fantastic: 9.5/10; Brisket Sandwich: 9/10; and Quinoa Salad w/ Salmon add-on: 9/10; World Famous Sprig Burger was judged okay by my brother-in-law ("like an Applebee's Burger" - sorry Sprig, I'm just reporting the facts as I received them): 6/10; Kid's Burger: 8/10, Kid's Chicken Fingers (the girl's weren't fans): 5/10 (an extra point could have been subtracted for the fries on the Chicken Fingers plates, which were disappointing, I tried them myself, valid complaints, maybe the oil was ready to be changed; to be fair, I didn't hear any complaints from the adults about their fries, so maybe the kid's sat too long?); and finally, the Mac & Cheese and Fruit sides (for my little nephew and judging how it looked by the enthusiasm with which he smashed it) Excellent: 9/10.
Cocktails: Old Fashioned (brother-in-law) Very Good: 8.5/10; The Arbiter (?, mine, I can't remember the name, don't see it online): Very Good: 8.5/10.
We went after most of us spent a long day at an outdoor festival and this place was the perfect choice. It looked like an incredible atmosphere for those without children as well (most of the packed dining room and the bar seemed to be having a blast) Definitely 5/5 stars. Highly...
Read moreI was a guest in my first time eating at Sprig Restaurant, arriving at 11:45 a.m. for a brunch that doubled as a business meeting. I ordered the Sprig Breakfast: two eggs (scrambled), bacon (2 strips), biscuit, plus grits, and decaf coffee.
Both price and value are quite reasonable, as such things go currently.
The food was well prepared. Scrambled eggs done but not dry. The bacon could have been crispier but I failed to ask for that specifically. The biscuit was a well-made solid biscuit, not an air filled pillow. The grits were thick but not lumpy, and thoroughly cooked not gritty, all of this being the way I actually prefer grits. I don't like them runny and undercooked, as sometimes happens at a place like The Majestic.
The atmosphere is certainly far more upscale than The Majestic anyway, and I would say that while Sprig might be kindly accepting of well-behaved children, I would highly suggest that this is not really the place for them.
Sprig is decidedly adult in atmosphere, and it builds itself as a "Restaurant & Bourbon Bar" offering over 500 different bourbons, and there is obviously no kids menu. (Take them somewhere else.)
That said, it is a fine adult eatery. The only atmospheric negatives might be that I felt like customers at adjacent tables were a little too close to each other, and it was a little bit louder than I was expecting, making a business conversation a little bit more difficult than it should have been.
The service was quite good and efficient, well paced, and not invasive as sometimes can happen with "overly enthusiastic" wait staff. It was about right for the context of a business brunch, and we had coffee refills in a timely manner.
I must add this caveat: I do not drink alcohol, so the panoply of available bourbons is not a draw for me (nor an aversion) so does not weigh into my initial impression or assessment of the place, particularly given the hour of the day.
Sprig accepts reservations, and I highly recommend that you get them before you go, rather than just showing up, based on my observations upon arrival.
It's a restaurant to which I would return again, though not likely by myself. Dining is, after all, a social event, in my case that was opportune for business as well. And overall, I believe Sprig fit that bill, although next time I would prefer a slightly quieter corner, with the next table over being more than an elbows...
