School is out and summer break has arrived! Can’t you tell by the snow? To celebrate, my middle school daughter and a couple friends went to a local fast food joint after school. They are nice and responsible girls with parents that don't allow them to do this sort of thing often, but with it being a special day to celebrate we allowed them to walk there from the school-a short distance.
They ordered food, paid, and sat down. When their order was ready they were told that they were not allowed to stay and eat. Their order was brought to them in a bag, not on a tray and they were told to go. Apparently the restaurant has a policy that teenagers are not welcome without a parent, unbeknownst to any of us. They weren’t told this until after they had already ordered and paid for their food, then were kicked outside.
A parent of one of the kids went in to get them and witnessed another group of kids order their food and be told they weren’t allowed to stay to eat. The kids said “But our parents are expecting us to be here. We told them we would be here.” They were told by staff they could eat outside the restaurant on the sidewalk then. In the rain and snow.
I just called and spoke with Brad-manager on duty. He told me this policy was put in place a couple years ago after some bad experiences with kids. I asked him if this policy was posted-he said it was a couple years ago, he's not sure when the signs came down but it's no longer posted. It's just known. All kids under 18 cannot be there without a parent.
I asked him to please post the policy and let people know prior to ordering. I let him know we didn't know, our kids didn't know and it was embarrassing to them that a special occasion of being allowed to celebrate with peers was ruined by this and next time we need to be able to tell them to go Sam and Louies or C&C or AJs or somewhere else next time.
Please post this policy. It isn't fair to take kids money, then boot them into the cold and rain. Let them know upfront so they can patronize another location. I've spoken with the parents of the other kids in the group and they and our families have always supported our local Runza and love Runzas across Nebraska-even being friends with the owners of several back home. This is sad and unfortunate to have a business practice such as this that isn't posted, but...
Read moreMy favorite Runza restaurant! The place is always very clean, the employees as well as the managers are friendly, attentive, and personable. This food is unique to Nebraska, expanding over the years from their original Bierocks (i.e.- a Runza bread pocket sandwich, and still my favorite). Their drive up window service is like a well-tuned machine, pretty fast even when there's a longer line though my preference is to dine inside where there's plenty of clean seating available. Nice atmosphere inside as well. The "Frings" (fries & onion rings together) are a different kind of treat, very popular here. The regular Runza is the closest thing I've found in aroma and taste to freshly-grilled White Castle hamburgers back east of the Mississippi River. A true "Made in Nebraska" home state business like no other I've ever come across in my travels through many states over...
Read moreWe don't have a Runza where I love in Texas and that's unfortunate, because now I'm hooked on them. Delicious and sweet bread rolls stuffed with meat, cheese and mushrooms?? Sign me up! Totally delicious! If a stuffed bread sandwich isn't your thing, they offer a wide selection of burgers and chicken products as well. The onion rings and fries are excellent and wash it down with a shake, smoothie or cold fountain drink. The restaurant has a large dining area and smaller patio as well. The facilities we're always clean and they have a super friendly staff. Do yourself a favor and end that hunger craving with a stop at this excellent fast...
