You can trust all these solicited 4-5 star reviews or you can be honest with yourself and realize that as a culture no one really wants to cook anymore, so we bite our tongues and overlook things we shouldn't. First off, I grew up in public housing plus I'm a fat boy so I can eat any thing but this was next level unacceptable. I phoned in an order here at around 1:15pm on 1/24/24 while sitting outside at the 5 points red-light in traffic. With bad weather moving in, I decided to order two dinners so I wouldn't have to get out again later. My order consisted of one chicken finger dinner and one hamburger steak dinner. I immediately noticed the menu prices online were not the same but I didn't say anything. At 1:50pm I came back inside to check on my order because I'd already paid but it still hadn't been brought out to my truck. I stood around for another ten minutes while the lady searched for honey mustard, ketchup, and H57 I'd requested when calling it in. When I finally get home I see my chicken fingers are burnt. I'm talking as dry and hard as an Alabama Highway in July. Ya boy ate 'em like a champ and shouted out my mama in Heaven knowing she'd be proud of me not forgetting where I came from. I was hungry and hadn't eaten since yesterday, plus knew I'd never order food here again. I only wish I had taken pics first. Anyways, I'm sharing a photo of what my entire order essentially looked like. If you zoom in you can even see where the chicken fingers were so burnt that they had melted the styrofoam plate. You cannot expect folks not to tell the truth if you send them home with food like this. I live out in the county and with storms moving in I wasn't driving back out there. Nor do I feel they deserved a phone call. What they did deserve is an honest Google review and here it is. By the way, they didn't toast my bread and also got my sides wrong on top of sending me home with one set of plasticware for two dinners after me asking multiple times for these said condiments. You can spend your money here if you like but KC's BBQ is only a few miles away and I have never been disappointed there. They are closed on Wednesdays or I would've went there to begin with. Either way, here's a photo of what's left of my burnt dinner. Be blessed!

Driving back home to Huntsville through the Scottsboro area, I stopped in on a whim, hungry and hoping to support a non-chain restaurant unique to the area. I lucked out with Holy Smokes. I've been to a couple barbeque places in Scottsboro, and this is my favorite so far. The parking lot is a little bumpy / pot-holey so be careful pulling in. I rolled into the restaurant and immediately felt that this was a local-type spot. The man operating the cash register was engaged in a very friendly, familiar conversations with someone eating there. However, he paused his conversation immediately when I walked up to him and taught me about the different sauces they offered. I'm glad he did, because I definitely have bbq sauce preferences, and he steered me in the right direction! Their fairly large menu is handwritten on the board behind the register, but I opted for a lunch deal they had running - a small pulled pork sandwich with chips and a drink for only $5!! Now granted, it was a small sandwich -- if you were starving you'd likely need a little something extra -- but for how delicious the sandwich was and for that cheap, you really can't do much better than that! The pulled pork itself was really, really good - honestly some of the best bbq I've had in north Alabama. Tender, moist, moderately smoky, not too fatty. Really, really good stuff. The sweet sauce the man at the register set me up with was good too, also faintly smoky and tangy on top of the usual sweet tomato flavor. It was a delicious sandwich, and the sweet tea I got was good too, though maybe not quite sweet enough for me. I plan on coming back with family so we can try some of their other bbq. If the pork stays consistent and the other stuff is even 75% as good, this could definitely be a 5 star spot. Check it out if you're in the area!

9-21-22 *update* added some pictures as well. Holy Smokes Bbq again. This time tried the sweet heat vinegar. They also do have a thicker rub but I didn’t realize so didn’t get it to try. This second time that we went it was Wednesday around 11:30pm. It hadn’t gotten busy yet. ____________________________________ Some of the best bbq IF you like your bbq vinegary. They have a mild-vinegar and a hot-vinegar. They also have a sweet option. My husband and I opted for the mild-vinegar. We loved it. I got a small sandwich deal with fries and a drink(Lunch deal). The small sandwiches are pretty small so you may want to get the large if you know you’ll eat a lot. I added coleslaw as well. Get the home cut fries, they are good. The vinegar sauce we got is a very thin sauce like liquid. It’s not your thick bbq sauce. Your buns may get soggy and fall a part but just grab a fork. I highly recommend this place. Ok...so I normally don't post my opinion on food because I have been a chef/cook for over 40 yrs of my life and can be quite critical...but I can't let this one slide...walking in the door it seems to be a nice, pleasant layed back atmosphere but the woman workin the counter was not pleasant nor was she approachable...in fact had she said anything at all it was not pleasant or nice or welcoming AT ALL as a mater of fact when I was trying to tell her what kind of sauce I wanted she cut me off and told me what I got...(Pretty much get what u get and don't throw a fit mentality) So I didn't want to cause the lady any undo stress by requesting something different...now lets move on to the food...not only was my order incorrect...(I mean how hard is it to get a brisket plate with potato salad and baked beans right?)...instead what I got was cold over cooked french fries and some pork and beans with a lil sugar in em I think....the ONLY good thing about the entire experience was the brisket...it was well cooked and a decent sized portion other than that that's really all I can say about that...I set my expectations a little high when it comes to food and when I pay $15 for a plate of food... I at the very least expect not only that my order be correct but the ppl serving it to at least be...
