If I could give zero stars, I would.

My wife and I went to dinner at Sapiens this evening, and our evening was ruined by the rude, arrogant, and surprisingly accusatory service we received. I ordered a steak ($60) to be prepared medium, and when I received the dish, I noticed that the steak was cooked well done. I sent the steak back, explaining to the server that the steak was overcooked. Moments later, a manager appeared from the kitchen, clearly irritated and carrying my plate. He had cut the steak into pieces, exclaiming that the middle was medium, ignoring that the ends were overcooked. He threw the plate back down in front of me. He exclaimed, "This is what you ordered! If you wanted medium rare, you should have ordered it that way!" and then briskly walked away. I was mortified. The entire steak (perhaps minus the very edge) should have been at least a little pink, not just the very middle. What is worse is that after a lifetime of dining at restaurants throughout the world, this was the first time I had ever been treated so rudely. There was absolutely no attempt to make an accommodation for my dissatisfaction. My satisfaction was simply irrelevant to him. I was forced to eat an expensive steak that was not to my liking.

Swallowing my embarrassment and anger, I ate as much of the steak as I could stomach but left a considerable amount of overcooked meat on my plate.

When the bill came, I told the server I would like to speak with the manager again. I calmly told him that the previous episode was unwarranted and embarrassing and that I did not appreciate it. Once again, he insulted me, claiming loudly that I was "trying to get away without paying for the steak I ordered." This, of course, was untrue, as I had already given the server my credit card. He further exclaimed that we should leave and never come back.

I assure you, that is my plan. I will NEVER return to this restaurant again, and neither should anyone else. Prior to the meal, we were even considering using their in-home food delivery service in the future, but our experience tonight left us swearing that we would never do business with them again.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! An arrogant management like this has no place...

Let's start with the positives. I love that I found a paleo restaurant where I can order anything from the menu. I appreciated the education about the paleo diet that was provided at each table. The parking was spacious, the meatloaf was good, and everything was beautifully plated.

However, there were several issues. The chicken was dry and bland. The rabbit was tasty, but it mostly consisted of bones and lacked the pearl onions. Additionally, the potatoes arrived late. We had made reservations for 5 PM, but the hours seemed a bit unusual, so I took what I could get for a birthday dinner. When we arrived, there was no music, and it didn’t appear that they were ready to welcome guests. From what I could tell, there was only one server and one chef working. The place was cute but cramped, and the chef was on the phone for most of our visit.

It took an hour for any food to reach the table, and there was little acknowledgment of the two birthdays being celebrated. Our food arrived cold, and when the music finally turned on, it was too loud and startled us halfway through the meal.

The main reason I am giving this review two stars is that there was NO SOAP in the bathroom for the entire two hours we were there. The following day, several people from our table experienced stomachaches and nausea.

I'm really disappointed as I had hoped this could be a new regular spot for us. Additionally, I hate to leave bad reviews for a small business as I love supporting local and family owned. However, due to the lack of cleanliness and the quality of the food, we will not be returning. For over $150 this was completely unacceptable. I really hope some positive changes are made.

I'm sorry to have to do this. My husband and I are both huge fans of supporting local business especially during a difficult time like covid. I was so excited to find a paleo restaurant in the area but noticed a few harsh reviews. I was optimistic to give them a try and potentially use them for occasional meal prep times. We were both greatly disappointed in our meals. The second I opened the container I couldn't even believe this food was allowed to leave the kitchen. Our veggies were not just undercooked there was not edible. There is no salvage to a completely under cooked brussel sprout or carrot. The chicken appeared to be boiled and unseasoned. I mean absolutely no flavor, no seasoning and I couldn't cut with a knife nor pull the meat apart with my fingers. My husband's veggies were the same and a few small pieces of duck were edible. We also purchased the apple crisp that was over seasoned and not edible. As someone who has cooked paleo food for over a year I'm just shocked. I've also noticed the owner never responded to negative reviews or people who dined in with bad experiences to make it right. I hope they figure out where the issues are here and turn it around. If you're reading this post I absolutely wouldn't eat here. Go to the store buy some quality meat and bake it along with some organic veggies and save...

Sapiens has exquisite gourmet French cuisine in an intimate warm environment. It is owned by the prestigious French Chef Aurore whose menu brilliantly offers choices that are paleo healthy even though they taste sinfully delicious. We had the Duck Confit with a vibrant Orange Reduction and the grass-fed Filet Mignon with a Malbec Wine Sauce. The sauces had such depth of flavors that it is no surprise that Chef Aurore was once a saucier for French officials and celebrities. The accompanying vegetables were beautiful (See photo of entrée.) including thinly sliced heirloom carrots and Au Gratin Potatoes so luscious that I am astounded they were made without dairy. Chef Aurore is such a kind person, caring not only about providing the healthiest food (locally grown organic produce, meat from humane conditions, without antibiotics and growth hormones), but also caring about the satisfaction and culinary experience of her patrons. Following the success of her former French restaurant, Vogue Bistro, voted Best Restaurant by Phoenix Magazine, Sapiens brings an innovative approach to fine dining making it a refreshingly healthy new restaurant to Scottsdale.

When I think of French food I think; wine, butter, cream, and eggs. So I was skeptical that a French/Paleo restaurant could serve anything worth mentioning. I was happy to find that Sapiens Paleo Kitchen is successful in achieving the balance of great flavor while adhering to Paleo nutrition principles. I started with the Beet Tartar (no beef or egg yolk here!). It was good and a nice change from the usual beet salads served at many restaurants. The vinaigrette was on the milder side instead of the usual overt sharpness, and I suppose this has to do with balancing taste while still keeping the probiotics of the salad “alive”. I also had sampled the Country Terrine which was meaty and course. It was delicious on the Paleo toast but I did wish the cornichon pickles had more of a vinegary kick. As a main dish I had the Rabbit Stew which was phenomenal! Please don’t let your fond memories of Peter Rabbit make you shy away from this dish! It is delicious, meaty, and satisfying. I was too full for dessert, so until next time Paleo Kitchen! Next time I’ll be sure to bring my own nice bottle of Pinot Noir to go with the Rabbit!
