I have been going to this place for as long as I can remember. That's a conscious 40 yrs. Conscious I mean by, as long as I could physically remember. Anyway, their breads have been done the same way since the beginning. They are way cheaper than the brand names that everyone buys and they are way fresher and just straight out better. They sell popular ones like multigrain and healthier options. I'll be straight here and tell you I don't like multigrain of any kind besides this one. Amazing breads and good prices. I guess it would have been easier
This is a more recent review after some time. I'm sad to report it's a sliver of its former glory. I bought 3 types of bread. I bought my original favorites rye and multigrain. We also bought Texas toast but that's for French toast. So, any normal bread would be fine. As for the multigrain. It was no different than the standard bread you would get in the supermarket. The rye isn't even as good as the rye I bought at Price Chopper. That is pre-frozen and baked on the day they sell it. The baked goods are still great and not quite as good as homemade anymore. The bottom line is: that I would rather save the trip and buy bread at my local supermarket. Since it's rustic, more flavorful, and overall better. I never thought I would see the day that I wouldn't recommend this place....
Read moreThis is the walk-in store for the National Bakery. I found this place by accident years ago.
Now, every time I drive by Scranton, PA, we detour to National Bakery!!
We stock up on fresh made Breads, Rolls and Sweets!! We sit in their parking lot and sample our purchases!!
I am amazed at how many customers stop by for a "daily" purchase!
They come out with small bags compared to our big bags!!
Imagine being able to stop in daily!! The local residents are very lucky.
Not only are the baked goods excellent, the prices are very reasonable. Add the super pleasant workers and it's a trifecta!
If you have the chance, stop in here. The selections are better earlier in the day. This time, we came after 3 PM and still had lots to choose from, but saw some empty shelves.
I recommend their "horn" rolls, hard poppy seed rolls and my absolute favorite yellow cake frosted with coconut! The Danish and Strudel sticks are very good, too.
I am sure I read a Kosher sign at this store. ...
Read moreI've been buying National Bakery buns since they were in the 800 block of Capouse Avenue they were definitely better years ago now they always seem to have air holes in the middle the past 10 years, the boss at work heard how great my wife's wimpies were with her Chow Chow recipe and hinted around to try some I invited him for lunch once and his first bite squirted a glob of Wimpy's on his pants because the air hole went right through I called complaining to the bakery right in front of him so he didn't think it was one of my practical jokes and their excuse was the clerk that sold me the Dozen should have checked for holes before selling them to me I think he always held it against me cuz I ended up getting fired a year later for something I shouldn't of you know when you have a sandwich now with the rolls they flatten out to nothing thank God there's crust to hold it together well I guess nothing is the same as...
