Wanted to try this place for a while. The place was very busy, so we expected slightly slower service, but not this bad. After grabbing the menu from the table behind us, the waitress took our drink order and left. It took a while to come back and I watched as she served several other bar patrons before bringing us our sodas. No worries, they were there first. She was super friendly and upbeat, talking up the food. When I ordered the hot wind stromboli, she immediately said she had it last night and it was delicious. Then added that the owner was cooking mine and it would probably be even better with him on the line. We ordered the food (the pretzels, a hot wing Stromboli, and the smashburger) and waited. The Stromboli came out first, then we waited a while longer for the pretzels and burger. Finally they came out. The pretzels were okay. Nothing fancy and surely not something I expected to wait over 20 minutes for, but they were still good. The hot wing stromboli was absolutely to die for. Delicious and would order again if I go back. My boyfriend said ther burger patties were good but the rest was nothing notable. The fries were absolutely overdone and we dunked them in the bleu cheese from the Stromboli to make them edible. Way over cooked for sure. Overall, the best parts were the super friendly waitress (long dark hair) and the stromboli. I want to give the place a chance to redeem themselves, so I'm hoping to go back eventually! It's walking distance from our apartment, so maybe...
Read moreCruising home from a road trip to the Hudson Valley, we had to swing by The 1905 Tavern since it's not super close to us, but I've seen it mentioned on almost everyone's list of must-try places. Maybe it was the nostalgia of a couples weekend together (blended family, five kids)... or maybe it was Maggie, who greeted us with a bubbly smile and great product knowledge.
I thought Maggie had long been the face behind the bar here, with the way she explained all the items and the passionate appreciation for what they're pumping out of the kitchen; she has just started working there... It must be a very near and dear place to her; but that's easy to get behind when you work with good people, and use fresh, high-quality ingredients with homemade traditions and recipes.
Ok, now the pizza. Great crunch to the crust, and nowhere near as heavy as some of our Sicilian favorites in the Wyoming Valley or Back Mountain. I guess it's considered Old Forge style, but that's a rabbit hole for another day. The cheese was a unique and tasty blend that I couldn't put my finger on, but was a little different than most I've tried before. And when you reheat it, tastes like a giant toasted Cheez-It... That really hit the spot the next day.
Oh, and amazing cappalletti soup (like Grandma's) and some of the best bites I've ever had, not pictured... Not overly breaded or fried, chunky and meaty, and lots of interesting sauces and rubs to...
Read moreI'm hoping it was just bad staff. Asked for a buffalo chicken wrap with ranch on the side, smother the chicken/wrap in hot sauce with lettuce and tomato. Came smothered in ranch, no hot sauce. The bartender said the cook said he put the hot/buffalo sauce on it, but she could clearly see it wasn't there - I even unwrapped it for her to see, she was still in denial. She messed up the entire order and seemed to blame it on the kitchen. I get its busy, but people go out to dinner for service. If you see the food is messed up, especially as someone who works for tips, it would be common sense not to bring it out and ask your team to fix it. The bartender just refused to acknowledge the mix up and just blamed the kitchen staff. If I had ordered a chicken sandwich and they had a burger ready, she probably would have still served it to me. Also asked for extra hot sauce on the side and celery - recieved neither. I had one more thing to ask....mind you, if she had been attentive it would have been one order/ask, we asked for a side of hot garlic. It was luke warm, no garlic, tbh it tasted like BBQ mixed with hot sauce. Again, asked her if it was garlic hot, and she again blamed the staff and assured me "he" said it was hot garlic. Place is strange, and there was a box of Franzia in the fridge (hopefully for sangria and not an actual glass of wine - those boxes bloat, not good). Place has zero...
