We stayed at the Days Inn on our way back to Virginia Beach from a family event in Pennsylvania and asked the woman at the counter for the best place in town to eat. She didn't hesitate for a second to recommend Southern Grill, just a few doors down. It's a cozy spot and easy to miss as a restaurant if you're not looking for it. The food was fantastic, made to order, and the service was great. My mom had the cheesesteak and fries, and I ordered a BLT with stewed tomatoes on the side and a cup of creamy crab soup. There must have been a dozen slices of bacon on my BLT. Everything was so good. They also have a dessert counter filled with incredible looking cakes and pies, all almost a foot tall and beautiful. Sadly, we hadn't saved room for dessert, but we sure wished we had. Lots of folks stopped in while we were there just to get a slice of cake or pie to take home. The only thing I didn't like about Southern Grill is that it's so far away from my home and I can't eat there every weekend. There were so many other items on the menu I'd love to try. I'm definitely going to plan any future trips up the Eastern Shore around driving through Seaford at meal times. Southern Grill is definitely...
Read moreI was staying in the area just for a night and asked the front desk for a recommendation for a local joint. I typically opt for local eats while travelling and avoid the chains. The restaurant is very close to being a "hole in the wall" diner, and sparse inside. Menu looked pretty much Southern with very simple selections. I opted for the crab cake per another's review, with chicken salad. Got the sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes for sides. I was expecting a very average meal given my selection (watching my diet!) but was definitely pleasantly surprised. The crab cake was a good size portion and really hit the spot. I got it broiled and not fried. Even more surprising was the chicken salad and sides. They were amazingly fresh and tasted fantastic and not "store bought". In fact, I downed the sides first and took half of the crab cakes back to pick at later in the hotel. My server was also just the friendliest person ever. If ever I'm back this way, will definitely be back to maybe try something else. As always, this is obviously a review of only my one experience here and your...
Read moreDisappointed. This is the second time I've eaten at this location. It was not a great experience for me. The person eating with me ordered breakfast and was very satisfied with the taste and portion size of the bacon, sausage and oatmeal ordered. I ordered fried chicken, with sweet potato soufflé and Mac n cheese. The chicken was average and so was the soufflé. The Mac and cheese was horrible! It looks like they make it with a rue and perhaps over did it. The Mac and cheese was white and pasty and the rue was thick and lumpy. It tasted like sour milk was used to make it! Absolutely disgusting. I couldn't eat it. I am amazed that any self-respecting restaurant would even serve such mess. The service was decent if not a little slow, but not a huge deal. It's a bit dark in the place, but some ppl probably like that. That Mac n cheese was a complete tragedy though. If you need wallpaper paste you can try it, otherwise don't order it. This meal was way too expensive for what we...
