Plaza Tapatia — Restaurant in Delaware

Bottom Line: We had dinner here yesterday and found TP to be a solid choice if you’re looking for a family friendly atmosphere, good margaritas, kitschy ambiance, and Mexican style food for gringos, with capable, friendly servers.

When we arrived the restaurant was about 2/3 full and sufficiently staffed. (Which is not easy, given the post-COVID shortage of restaurant help!) The host was also cleaning and busing tables but got to us quickly and courteously and had us seated in 5 minutes. The server, Ángel, was also quick to arrive.

Chips and drinks arrived quickly. We ordered the Texas Margaritas (basically a Cadillac). They were a bit sweeter than expected and we would order the regular margarita next time. But they weren’t bad, and the server didn’t skimp with the tequila.

When I had questions about what to order, Angel was knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the Enchiladas Rancheras. My husband had the Carnitas. Both were prepared well and were flavorful. We also ordered the flan. It was a little bit dense, perhaps cooked a few minutes too long. But the custard flavor was good and the caramel was spot on. Much better than the flan at many other restaurant in the area. And Angel checked on us regularly throughout our dinner.

All in all, we were hesitant to come in after reading some of the very harsh 1-star reviews posted lately. But those reviews did not reflect our experience. We would definitely come back and recommend...

Ordered carry out for dinner. Once we unpacked the order, noticed the order of three hard tacos were missing. Called the restaurant and when I explained what was missing to the person that answered, she said I ordered a number whatever, instigating I was not supposed to have hard tacos. Informed her I did not and repeated my order from the receipt. She then recognized my order and realized I was in fact missing an item. She apologized and asked what I wanted to do. I said I wanted to come pick up the missing items and also place a second order. Picked up that order, didn’t check before leaving, but should have. Unpacked second order and once again missing an item and what was given was incorrect. I ordered three hard tacos, two pollo, one beef. I received two soft tacos, one pollo and one beef. I have a food allergy and cannot eat the flour tortillas, which is how I am certain I ordered hard. I have been trying to call the restaurant for the last 15 mins with no answer. I don’t usually leave reviews, especially poor ones, but this is the only way I can make contact about this situation. Normally the food and service are great and we have no issues. But the last few times haven’t been the same....

Came in for dinner around 8pm. Chips & salsa were good, frozen strawberry margarita had a salt rim instead of sugar rim & was not sweet at all. Unfortunately, not to my liking so it was returned to the kitchen. Jalapeño poppers were very good and it had a nice & warm dipping sauce. My bf & I got two different types of fajita dinners & they were very bland. We did not finish our meals (as we were full) as the portion sizes are decently sized for the price point but I did not request a box to take any of the food home even though I normally do so. Chicken & beef were dry & shrimp was OK. Nothing special, I don't think I'll come here again and rather drive the 15min out to Laural for the other local Mexican restaurant or go to the one on main St.
