I was a little skeptical with a BBQ place/gas station but thought we would give it a try. It was a holiday Sunday and we were on our way back from a two hour road trip and on course we were starving. It seemed really slow for a holiday weekend. My son ran to the (clean) restroom. The wife looked around the crafts and I waited patiently at the order line. A young man asked for my order and I advised him that I was waiting for my wife and child. He gave me a shrug and walked back to the cooking/kitchen area. My wife showed up around 10 minutes later and we waited at the ordering station for about another 15 minutes. No one and I mean no one acknowledged us. I had to ask the young lady at the deli side for assistance and she said they were closed. I was very upset as I could see the young man and a few other people in the kitchen/cooking area roaming around. I know they saw us but did not even mention to us that they were closed. It would of been nice if the young man who I first spoke to would of told me they were closing in the next 10 minutes. I would of made an executive decision and ordered for my family. I was tired, hungry, and now very angry. I work in customer service and take customer service very seriously. A simple heads-up would of helped and a walk to also. I understand that they were about to close and they all want to leave but I was more than patient I hope they do not treat their customer's in this way on a regular basis. An apology would of also gone a long way. So I guess the moral of the story is don't expect much service in the last half hour of store hours. Enter at...

Now about the steak... They have coolers full of steaks and pre seasoned meats of every animal.. and the smell of jerky and smoked meats permeates the air.. it gets the internal carnivore raging.. so when I saw steak on the menu I pounced.. in theory it sounded great.. good ole' meatmarket folks from Hillje have to know how to cook a steak right? They make great sausage.. but when it comes to a $23 steak well it leaves something to be desired.. The cut was off, so it was full of gristle and it was tough.. I know you are saying ugh this newb probably ordered it well done or something.. well bite your tounge I would never commit such a sacrilege. However, my biggest qualm was that they only had plastic utensils and plate.. I'm supposed to cut this gristle with a plastic knife and fork.. don't get me wrong they did give me the fancy chromed plastic cutlery set, but have you ever tried to eat a steak with plastic ware.. had it not been for my pocket knife I would have had to go full caveman and grab the steak with both hands and release my inner beast..
I know I'm complaining a lot about the steak, but the sides were good and everything else about the store is so cool I'l stop there again... (prob on my return trip today) but I'l probably be having the bbq..
Ps my rating would have been 5 star if the steak...
