It's a cozy streetside shack attached to the more formal-setting restaurant. The main items they serve are fish and chips and chowders (red, white, and salmon). Of course, they sell other seafare. I ordered a clam chowder bowl (there is also a cup size, a "tanker" size that is 32 oz. and meant for multiple people, and a bread bowl for the chowder). The chowder was delicious, especially on a cold, rainy Seattle day. It was a bit pricey, coming in at over $6 for this size (an additional dollar and change for the salmon version), but I would consider ordering the same thing again. It had a very nice "homemade" feel to it, with the potatoes and carrots being perfectly soft bite-sized pieces and the taste being somewhat typical for a chowder like this (so no surprises). It was creamy but not heavy and it was served right away (actually, the wait time from ordering to getting the food is very short, even with other people in line). Finally, the fish bar also has typical condiments like malt vinegar, ketchup, and tartar sauce. All utensils are compostable, as are the soup cup and lid, as expected of Seattle. Given its proximity to some work areas and fast service, I would come again and invite coworkers for a casual lunch.

Great views of Lake Union and water traffic passing through to Lake Washington One of the great places in Seattle for an outdoor Lunch for about $20. Their Fish Bar at the North Lake Union location appears to serve slightly larger portions of salmon than outlying outlets by the same name. Watch boats sailing from lake Washington to Lake Union as you dine on Fish n Chips. The Smoked Salmon Chowder is especially good. On the day of our visit, we spotted the Seattle Fire Boat "Chief Seattle" passing by. Kenmore Air Float planes can be seen in the distance. They cut a take off path on the Lake to alert boaters of intended take departure. Free guest parking across the street. Property also offers a 100 feet boat dock and free tie up while dining at restuarant. Pick up your order, then access the dining dock by walking around the Salmon House Restaurant entrance and continue about 10 feet past totem poles to the outside ramp leading to dock where there are tables and chairs. Crank up umbrellas offer shade. If you prefer a historic spirit inspiring setting, dine inside Salmon House for Lunch or Dinner. The Bar offers a large Happy Hour Menu which rates a separate review.

got the 5 piece Cajun Fish & Chips the fish itself does not really measure up to Spud’s Fish and Chips. It’s definitely fried less well - it just doesn’t have the same breading on the outside. Even the inside doesn’t taste half as good - it’s a little bit pully. There was supposed to be Cajun breading on the outside - but I pretty much didn’t notice any difference at all - there was no extra seasoning or any extra flavor that i could taste Still - it wasn’t bad. Fried fish is going to taste pretty good unless you completely screw it up - and this place certainly didn’t. The portion of fish was quite good as well - as 5 decently sized fish were enough to be filling the tartar sauce was average - nothing too special. it slightly improved the fish taste but didn’t add to it the same i will say the fries were really good. the fish came in on top of a massive portion of fries - and while there was no real seasoning there - these fries were pretty fantastic in terms of being perfectly soft on the inside. I really enjoyed them with the sauces overall: good portions and fries, but the dish was quite mid. 6.5/10

The Smoked Salmon Chowder was delicious and the Grilled Salmon plate was pretty good although not really a fan of the rice pilaf it comes with. Since the food was so great you are probably wondering why only 3 stars? Due to the Covid the dining room and bar are closed and since one of the joys of coming to this place was the bar overlooking Lake Union and the barge with outdoor seating and boat moorage I can not in good concience give it more than 3 stars. Ivars Fish Bar is a shadow of its former self. It has always been a great place to stop in with your boat on the way in from a long day out on the lake. A place to grab a bite, grab a drink, use the restroom then hop back on the boat and head to the marina! Ah yes that's a great story but alas at this point in time it is only a fantasy. I don't think we will be seeing this fine establishment bustling as it did in its heyday... At least not in this, the summer of the final days of Covid (I hope) me thinks the Barge at the Fish Bar will be quite vacant...

I went here a few times a year when I was little. Now that I am back here and settling in on a permanent basis I HAD to visit one of my favorite restaurants from my childhood. The place has not really changed much since the 1980s. If you want a place that is as solid as a rock, never changing to relive your childhood, or give your children memories similar to your own this place is PERFECT! I ordered one of the most expensive items on the menu, the seafood platter, just to give myself the broadest spectrum of old tastes and flavors to bring back as many memories as possible and that platter was about $25. So prices are not too bad. Even the views from the restaurant windows have remained pretty much the same! GREAT place to go if your feeling nostalgic, or want memories to share with family. Service is excellent. You can show up in jeans and a tshirt or formal attire and still fit right in
