On The Way Café — Restaurant in Selbyville

Traveling back home we came across this spot and saw it had good reviews. Decided to stop and we quickly regretted it. First off, there was a bit of a communication issue between the waiter and ourselves. He does not greet you and just stood there waiting for us to order. We ordered the loaded garlic parm fries which were ok. Steak and shrimp were both over cooked and extremely hard to chew. We put in our lunch order which was the crab dip cheeseburger and a cheeseburger club. My husband asked for just American cheese, mustard and lettuce and tomato. The waiter told us the club does not come with bacon for the cheeseburger and it’s extra ,huh? It says right on the menu it does. I noticed the waiter couldn’t really understand so I walked up to another lady to verify our order was correct. She went over it and said a side of honey mustard and I replied no he wants regular mustard on his club , not the side. I also asked her about the bacon and she also tried to say it didn’t come with bacon and the menu strictly says it does . So our food comes out and they forgot the mustard of course. They brought him a bottle to Put on himself. We saw some type Of creamy stuff on it and realized they also put crab dip on it. My husband absolutely hates cream cheese and crab dip. When we told the waiter he kept repeating no this is regular this is regular. Nowhere on the menu does it say it comes with crab dip on it. After all that he says they will make another . After a total of an hour there, my food was ice cold at this point, they finally brought out his food. We were actually about to walk out being it was taking so long. This is probably one of the worst places we’ve been to. Never asked if we needed refills or anything. They gave us 10% off the bill but I really feel like that was just a slap in the face considering. I don’t know how they have such good reviews. IHOP, royal farms (fried chicken) and other chain breakfast joints, we try not to go to, especially on vacay. After checking multiple spots, we settled for this place and I was impressed. A total of 9, including 4 kids (super wild), but our server Marie was nothing short of amazing in every aspect of our experience. A nice and cozy diner, wasn't expecting great food and was a little hesitant on the service considering the location (middle of nowhere? Kind of).

I got the NY strip with sliced tomatoes and 6 eggs on the side. I asked for medium rare on the steak and got medium, which was fine. The steak was seasoned just the way I like em and the eggs were cooked over easy perfectly. The others enjoyed their meals as well.

But let me tell y'all about our server MARIE. She was extremely accommodating, super patient with the 4 kids we had. They were wild but she was able to maneuver around them and keep composure the entire time! 😂 Her timing was impeccable in terms of refills and checking up on us to make sure all was good. Her humor matched with ours and she was very personable.

Thinking right now, I wonder why she isn't elsewhere making more money. Not that money is everything, but with her personality and exceptional service, she should be managing an entire operation or company. No one wants to work on the holidays, but she did so, and with grace and consideration. And she didn't even know it was (is) my birthday today.

If you haven’t stopped On The Way Cafe to the beach or On The Way Cafe somewhere you’re definitely missing out! What a treat! The food is excellent!! We were served by Flo, who couldn’t have been any nicer and more genuine to my family. Made us feel at home. We had the deluxe garlic parm fries with steak and chicken (no shrimp due allergies) they were hand cut fries and they were delicious. The 3 and 6 year loved them. Crab dip was perfect, plenty of crab meat and good blend of cheeses. Probably could teach some of the speciality restaurants how to make it. Wings were on point. Wraps, Caesar and Italian were too much too eat at once, delicious!! Hot roast beef sandwich with a side of fries was a hit! The kiddos had the chicken tenders and absolutely loved them and enjoyed them the next day too! Again, service was amazing, couldn’t ask for anything to be better! Flo you spoiled us!! So thank you!! The only thing you need is a big sign!!! We love On The Way Cafe!! Of Course no photos food was destroyed...
