Let me start by saying I wanted to love this place. We drove for an hour to get there and the building is so cool and historic. We did have reservations and they had our table ready for us all good so far. I looked at the menu online as I’ve never been there before and saw they had Brisket sandwiches on rye. I was so happy with my already prepared food order, but the the server quickly dashed my hopes and told me that that’s a different menu than the supper menu that’s fine. I’ll have the brisket dinner then I said we ordered the big pretzels for appetizers and they were great and we wished we had ordered more. my dinner came the brisket which was very flaky and tender with the braised carrots, which were very good and fries which were fine. The brisket was very, very strong with salt. I was unable to eat it by itself so I asked the server if I could get some bread and she was so glad to tell me that no bread at suppertime. Only bread at lunchtime at our table had ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. On bread And hamburgers on buns. But I was not allowed to have a piece of bread with the brisket, we asked if we could get a bun she said unhappily and said she would check. She returned to the table with a cold bun. I was thankful and put some on it to eat my brisket as we got noticed we were charged two dollars for the bun. Most of our group were happy with their food . The food is not authentic German food but German food with an Indiana flair which is fine. She also explained how their lunch menu and dinner menu are totally different. So I believe they destroy all the bread from lunch before they serve their dinner. Like I said, I really wanted to love the place. But I do enjoy sharing the story of “no...
Read moreSchwätzer’s German Restaurant in Seymour is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. The warm, cozy atmosphere made it feel like we were dining in someone’s home rather than a restaurant—and the staff were just as inviting. Friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the food, they offered fantastic suggestions that made our meal unforgettable.
We started with the brisket egg rolls, and wow—just wow. Crispy on the outside, packed with tender brisket, sauerkraut, and melted Swiss on the inside. It’s the kind of appetizer that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate how good it is.
For mains, we went with the Jägerschnitzel and the Rouladen. The Jägerschnitzel was perfectly breaded and topped with a rich mushroom gravy that was pure comfort food. The Rouladen, with its savory blend of beef, pickle, onion, carrot, and bacon, was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Both dishes were hearty, satisfying, and incredibly well-prepared.
Overall, the experience at Schwätzer’s was top-notch. Great food, an inviting atmosphere, and service that felt personal and thoughtful. If you're anywhere near Seymour, this place is...
Read moreMy husband and I drove 45 minutes to check this place out. We are in the food industry business. We had high expectations after reviewing photos and the online menu, however, we were very very disappointed. I will say the staff present this evening were kind though. We waited a long time for our food, and when we received it both dishes were cold and portion sizes small for a German establishment. I sent back my pork dish and asked if they could just pop it in the microwave. When it came back out it was still the same temperature with no noticeable difference, everything was cold and I was not asked if it was better. Besides that, both dishes were extremely bland and had little to no flavor. We were charged the full amount on our bill. My husband got the mushroom dish and it was chewy and undercooked, as well as his items except for the fries being cold. Our hope is that with time they can improve. Again, very friendly staff but that’s the only positive thing I can say about...
