Those with allergies or special accommodations be warned!
The short: Due to negligence, I almost gave my wife dairy twice who can absolutely not have it due to my newborn son's deadly milk allergy. The sandwiches were practically dipped in horseradish, they gave me cheese on a chicken sandwich after letting them know we were an allergy concern, we were told we couldn't get fries without cheese just the same as the chips. Pulled pork tasted out of a tub. Not worth price. Salads were old, limp, and small.
The full:
I will note this is the first 1 star I've written in a very long time and I'm in the top 10 percent of reviewers. So I eat out a lot.
So when I first walk in. I tell the cashier as I'm ordering that it's my first time here. I do some menu staring and I land on Archie's Favorite sandwich. Claims it's roast beef dunked in Aus Jus and with spicy horseradish. I order it without cheese due to my family being dairy free (both kids severely allergic and mom is breastfeeding so no diary for her).
It was probably in Aus Jus at one point but it definitely didn't make it into the sandwich and it was obvious from the dry bun minus the horseradish. What must have happened is they dunked the meat into white horseradish instead. I will credit that they managed to keep the cheese off the sandwich but it was so insanely overpowered with horseradish (that soaked the bun) my wife and I actually ended up eating just the meat after scraping it off.
The chips were dusted in cheddar. We did not see any sign saying so and the cashier despite knowing it was my first time did not even mention it after asking for no cheese on both sandwiches. Overall I felt the chips were better without it but also my wife ended up not being able to enjoy any part of her meal.
I decided to give them another chance and placed an order to-go. The pulled pork and the crispy chicken. I was informed after letting the cashier know that we are have dairy allergies in the family that I could NOT get fries without cheese. I don't know how that works but I didn't argue that point. So I got a salad with both since the fries and chips were out of contention.
The chicken sandwich came with cheese, so my wife couldn't eat the sandwich. The salad was old and rusted and barely a quarter of a handful of spring mix.
The pulled pork tasted exactly like it came out of a heavily processed tub. I actually had far better pulled pork out of a frozen pouch from Costco the night before for around the same price. And that was a 2lb bag.
Again I don't tend to write places off. But this is a never return for me with zero...
Read moreWe go here frequently and I probably should have left a 5* review ages ago but this week, I was reminded how grateful we are to have Archie's. I was dining with our toddler, who wanted to eat outside, and in the process of moving him, our meals, and our drinks to the table, I managed to spill a plate of food all over the patio. I picked up most of it but needed help cleaning up the smaller morsels (knowing full well that the nearby seagulls were ready to swoop). I went back to the counter and asked if someone could come help me clean up the mess. I was quite mortified, very focused on feeding the little one, and frankly was ready to forgo my own meal because I didn't think my son would appreciate waiting for a second order to come out. The team member who helped insisted on bringing me a replacement meal — which he did quickly, at no charge, and in a box in case the toddler timer went off. It was a very kind gesture that reminded me why Archie's is our go-to in Shelburne. (Other reasons include a very solid Beyond burger and the blueberry cheesecake ice cream, which is my favorite ice cream anywhere in Vermont and quite...
Read moreWe waited 1 hour and 12 minutes for Chicken Fingers & a Veggie Burger.
They had 3-4 cooks working. They do 1-2 tickets at a time. I went up an hour after we ordered to ask where they were and said “We just finished this one so we’re putting yours on the grill now.” I’ve worked in restaurants for 10 years and never have I seen a worse kitchen system. They should be planning atleast 5 tickets at a time. With 3-4 cooks you can do that. I looked over the counter multiple times and never saw more than 2 things on the grill. It was as if they were putting 1 patty on the grill and staring at it without multi-tasking. Zero leadership or direction from supervisors or managers. At our table my friend joked that each cook dropped each chicken tender into the fryer individually. Meanwhile, there were only two other tables in the restaurant and one outside. It wasn’t busy.
I want to say that we all love the food at Archies and love the atmosphere. Go to Archies for their food, not the service. Be prepared to wait over a LONG time for your food.
Below is a picture of what we ordered that took 1 hour and 12 minutes to come out. It...
