Just dined here for the first time this evening with my wife. We arrived at around 4:45PM on a Friday and had no wait time whatsoever. The place was moderately busy when we arrived, and only got busier as the evening progressed. So keep this in mind if you like to eat a little bit later in the evening.
Also bear in mind that there are no COVID protocols in place -- at least there weren't when we showed up. Staff weren't wearing masks, no patrons were wearing masks. It didn't bother me much since I was already vaccinated, and technically speaking, they aren't required to follow COVID protocols anymore, but be aware if this is a concern of yours.
The atmosphere was quiet and it felt somewhat secluded. Something else interesting I noticed in comparison to some of the other local steak chains like Longhorn and Outback is that there were no children present. It was nice.
So... drinks. If you're a coca-cola fan, be aware that they only offer pepsi products. They also have an interesting selection of wine and cocktails. As far as appetizers are concerned, we tried the saganaki (fried cheese) and in greektown fashion, they light it at your table, and douse it with lemon juice. It was great.
The complementary black bread is soft and dense. They include a cherry butter with it that I thought was awesome, but offer plain butter if you want it. Whats more is that the butter is actually spreadable and soft. I can't recommend the cherry butter enough. It was really good.
We both tried the french onion soup and were very pleasantly surprised. Normally I can't stand onion, but the onion is rendered down so nicely that its nearly perfect.
Now, for the main course, my wife ended up having the ribeye, with mashed potatoes, and I had the prime rib with the steamed red skins.
Now... I will say that both of our meals were slightly on the bland side, but they were cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were buttery, the steams redskin potatoes were cooked to perfection and gave away with the slightest effort. My wife's Ribeye was medium as requested, and my Prime Rib was a perfect medium rare. Just slightly bland, but there are pink Himalayan salt shakers, and peppercorn grinders on the table. Make use of the gravy that comes with the mashed potatoes, or use some butter, salt, and pepper to smooth things out a bit more. Use some salt, pepper, and butter to bring the redskin potatoes to the next level.
As for the steaks? Salt and Pepper also go a long way here. Additionally, don't be afraid to request steak sauce. The Prime Rib is offered with horseradish sauce. Season your food to taste!
We also tried the gluten-free lava cake. if I'm being honest, it seemed a bit small, but it was warmed perfectly, and gave way with the fork effortlessly. It was a perfect semi-sweet chocolate, and the texture was more of a really dense mousse more than it was cake. That was probably due to the gluten-free aspects, but it made it even better, in my opinion.
All in all, we enjoyed our experience, and enjoyed seeing what other people got, so we could get ideas on what to order next time, because rest assured, there will be...
Read moreNow, I don't go out to fancy, or near fancy places that much, but when I do, I expect a lot. I was not disappointed here. Steakhouse 22 has a very warm but very well lit atmosphere. It's open, but not noisy. Kelly, our waitress, was a pure delight. She was patient, helpful, polite, and all smiles. She was what a waitress or water should strive to be. Maybe she should give classes. I was here celebrating my birthday with my family. I began with a glass of "The Critic" Cabernet. It was dry, not sweet, but soft and full-bodied. It has Jimmy's of tobacco, dark berries, and earth. Perfect for the meal I was at the precipice of embarking upon . My meal began with the cream of wild mushroom soup, and escargot. The soup was just as described; seasoned very well, though my palate would have leaned towards a little more white pepper. But devine. A real treat! The escargot was prepared a way to which I was not accustomed. It was in a garlic butter, with a taste of mushroom, and topped with a small flaky biscuit. Very tasty, but my mind is still pondering possibilities. This, in no way discredits the chef. It was delicious. I'm fact, the last time I had them, I pulled them from their shells at the Chicago restaurant, Marché. Those were also delicious. I just wonder. I shared the Chateaubriand with my sister. It truly was a very tasty, and very tender cut of meat. The bearnaise sauce just added to it. The baked cheesed tomato, the duchesses potatoes, and all the veggies, combined for a rather filling and delightful meal, which of course, was well complimented by the wine I enjoyed. Also ordered by my family was the French onion soup, the filet mignon, and the bourbon salmon; all of which were raved about. For dessert, we shared a piece of carrot cake, a piece of tiramisu, and a piece of bumpy cake. I'm not a big fan of bumpy cake, and am highly critical of cakes in general, having made several on the watchful eyes of culinary teachers. However, the tiramisu, and the carrot cake, were exquisite. Hats off to La Petite Pastry Shoppe. For service, atmosphere, and taste, I give this place a 5 star, and highly recommend it. Also, for what you receive, the price is not out of line. I will definitely find a way to get there again soon. And hats off to our waitress,...
Read moreWe had reservations, the parking lot was full, so we thought we were in for a treat. To be honest, after this first and last time at this restaurant, for the life of me, I don't understand why. We arrived 15 min early and they had our table ready so we were seated quickly. The restaurant looked clean. The decor was ok. The menu was nice like a hard cover book. The waitress seemed nice, but more attentive to my s.o. beer refills than my one skinny glass of Pepsi. I had to flag her down. The refill came in a much bigger glass, after I was done eating my disappointing meal that I didn't finish. We did order an appetizer, the spinach artichoke dip. It was ok...not the best. I prefer another nearby sports bars much better and we were wishing we went there instead. The waitress didn't take our order until the appetizer came to the table so we waited forever to give our dinner order. We both got the prime rib dinners. My s.o. got the cream of mushroom soup. Which he really enjoyed (more than his prime rib) I got the salad but with only a little cup of dressing I had to ask for another in order to cover my salad sufficiently. Then she brought a little loaf of dark rye with a cherry butter. That was good. Then came the main course. That is where the real disappointment happened. First impression was where the hell is the au jus. there was none but a sear splatter of brown tasteless water and an incorrectly cooked prime rib. I ordered med rare. Mine was rare like red rare not a touch of med. So it was cold and chewy. I ordered a baked mac n cheese for a side. It's canned. So it was gross. I hated my meal. My s.o. ordered the same size 8 oz. but his was double the size of mine! And his was ordered med well. His was only med. Too pink for his taste. That was another problem. No taste. These were the most tasteless prime ribs we've EVER had! His brocolli was good. They were 2 crowns, again, no flavor so he has to salt them to taste. I took 3 bites and I was done. I couldn't finish mine. I told him was we walked out...don't worry about bringing me here ever again. What a waste of money. Sad we could have gone and had a better dinner at Logans, Texas Roadhouse, Black Rock, anywhere ..maybe even...
