The Tacos Mexicanos meal is an authentic treat, albeit expensive for what you get. You get 3 tacos filled with your choice of meat accompanied by onions, cilantro and lime wedges. It comes with a spoonful of refried beans and a spoonful of rice (hardly any). The 'soft/hard' corn tortilla is true to its roots and reminiscent of 'real' Mexican food normally bound to SouthWest Detroit. My complaint comes from their consistency for delivery orders. Sometimes they include the lime wedges, and sometimes not. Sometimes the wrong type of salsa shows up and sometimes it is the correct salsa. This is unacceptable. When you order from DoorDash or wherever, you don't get a chance to check your meal before you accept it plus you pay a MASSIVE PREMIUM for having it delivered. When the limes aren't there or the salsa is wrong, it absolutely ruins the entire meal. Each component is critical to the overall experience (think a PBJ with wihout jelly, or over-easy eggs without toast, or Kathy-Lee without Regis). I went in to order a carry-out and brought it up to the only girl who seemed to be working the front and she didn't even offer an apology. Not sure I'll ever DoorDash from this place again, but I might just stop in for carry-out from time to time so I can...
Read moreGo! It is really good, best in town. Mostly simple but with some inventive specialties and since the place is small and casual this is smart and good restaurant management.
People say authentic a lot (there's a place on Drummond Island that claims to be "authentic" Mexican--it isn't). However, we don't, not should we, really care about "authentic". What we should case she is, is it a consistently good and positive experience?
Authentic Mexican food isn't so beef or even meat heavy, authentic Indian is onion heavy and generally includes bones, authentic cuisines from rural countries are often fatty because the people there need the calories that we do not, etc.
Diego's IS 99% of the time very GOOD (A); (B) it is always at least good (been going there for years now, eaten there probably 100x); and (C) the service is polite 100% of the time and efficient 98% of the time.
There seems to be a bit of service staff turn over, rarely does a server stick around for more than a few months, normally this is a sign of trouble or creates terrible, but I just think that it is the nature of this particular business: family and friends seem to work there.
Everyone almost always seems committed to making...
Read moreThis place could be great if you could just get what you order. They ALWAYS mess up my order and leave something out. Every single time. I love nearby and used to be a regular customer, until I got so sick of ordering things and not receiving them. Why pay $2 extra for guacamole if you don’t think it will show up in the box? Why order at all if you are always going to have something missing? Today, I ordered three things- taquitos, large mild salsa, and a side of salsa verde. Everything was plugged into the computer on the screen. I ordered in store. Got home, opened my bag, and I got taquitos and my large salsa. No salsa verde for me. I think you need to look into getting new managers and training for your employees. This was my first time there in about a year. I think I am done for good. I tried twice three years ago to get some catering for a birthday party. Talked to an employee, left my name and number twice, and no one called me. Food is great. Prices are a little high. Employees are nice- but if you can’t follow the ticket and give the correct order, you aren’t doing a good job. 3 stars is a generous review, only for the quality of the food I...
