We were checking out wedding venues around the area and been wanting asian food for our wedding reception. We are here for lunch and we were so impressed on how delicious and quality their food are! We didn't see any catering signs on their menu but just braved up and asked them if they would entertain the idea of catering our wedding---and they enthusiastically agreed! AAAH! what an answer to prayer! And all our 220 guests plus my husband and I were well fed with amazing thai/laotian food, and even had more for guests and our family to bring home! They made our dream reception food come true! Cno, Mama The, and the whole team were so accommodating, assuring, and made the whole wedding menu prep so easy and smooth! We were so creative to how we can allaccommodate all preferences with our menu- meat-eaters, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc! We had spring rolls, egg rolls, and rice/ginger soup with tofu/chicken for social hour food and they were a hit! For reception we had, pad thai, drunken noodles, and green curry with tofu and chicken options, holy basil flounder, and sauteed asian greens. We had sticky rice with mango/custard and fried banana rolls and vanilla ice cream for dessert! And had thai tea with boba pearls for our special drink! All of our guests were impressed as we were from the beginning! It was truly a hit and was one of the big talks of the evening and even after the wedding! It is not often that they serve really good asian food in a wedding- and we were able to with the help of Mai House! But besides their great food, the Mai House owners and staff are like family! They truly and genuinely wanted to the best and serve their best for our wedding, and they definitely did! We are so thankful that we found Mai House! What a blessing and a reception to remember! And everytime we are in Shelbyville- we only eat at one place!

Read moreStepping inside Mai House is like stepping into another world. Imagine: soft lighting, lovely florals, the gentle aroma of something exciting coming from the kitchen, mingling with the quiet murmur of people enjoying their meal. Amara greeted us with a genuine smile, making us feel instantly welcome. She happily gave expert advice and recommendations. The meal began with crispy wontons and chicken and rice soup. The golden brown wontons were fried perfectly crisp, boasting a delightful filling of pork, shrimp & chicken, served with a yummy, sweet n sour sauce -- simply irresistible. The chicken and rice soup, with hints of lemongrass and ginger, was like a hug in a bowl, warming us from the inside out.
For our entrées, the drunken noodles were swimming in a craveable holy basil sauce. It was an intoxicating symphony of savory, sweet, and spice. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, and the glistening, whole wheat noodles paired perfectly with the crisp and delicious veggies, all in all, a dynamic delight. Not to be outdone, the honey chicken arrived in huge, crispy, juicy chunks, delectably drizzled with their signature sweet and savory honey sauce. It was served with ramen-style noodles and perfectly braised broccoli florets, a dynamic duo of comfort food and taste sensation. Our generous meal (2 starters, 2 entrees, 2 drinks, plus leftovers) was only $43 dollars. Mai House also offers carry-out, but trust me, this experience is best enjoyed in person. This combination of fabulous food, exceptional service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for...
Read moreI have never left a food review ever so this will be the very first one I have ever done. The food here is incredible and I mean that truly. I was a bit skeptical on how the food would taste and I've eaten at pretty much every restaurant in Shelbyville. But I have to say that the food here is incredible, it is fresh, well-crafted, and I can sense there's a lot of love put in it and I know that sounds so cliche but it has to be one of the better restaurants in Shelbyville that I have eaten at, it's literal quality. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, I have only eaten there once but the staff were extremely friendly, polite, courteous, well-mannered, and professional. I mean that was incredible to see them put their best foot forward, I mean this is crazy in terms of customer service, it's unheard of. So on top of the great customer service you have quality crafted food, a pretty extravagant menu, and to top it all off decorum that you have to say, wow they really put some thought into this. This restaurant appeals to me in every way and I will be in all probability a recurring customer, frequently. If this review sounds a little weird it's because I'm just talking to a microphone so that way I don't have to type it but my review is genuine 100% real and honest. Do yourself a favor and try...
