I didn't leave a tip. Never, in over 40yrs of my adult life have I ever done that. The food: my Greek omelet had a fair amount of everything except the gyru meat. It was only in half the omelet, and I had to unfold the egg to find it. The home fries, were as dark as they could be without actually tasting burnt. They did not look appetizing. The service, or better, lack of service: I was given a cup of coffee before the food was ready. The waiter asked if I needed jam for my toast. He literally dropped it onto the table and kept walking. He proceeded to another table to speak with a couple around his age. Then he pulled his phone out and started sharing pictures with them, getting their emails, constant chatting. I really would have liked to have been asked if I wanted a 2nd cup of coffee. He proceeded to the cash register with the younger couple where they continued their conversation. After they left, he went down the opposite side of the restaurant and disappeared. I was done with my food, so I stood up to go to the register to pay. He quickly came up to me and asked if I wanted the check. Then he asked me, while I was standing if I wanted another cup of coffee. I told him, yes...5 minutes ago. I really hate leaving a bad review, but the quality and service were just not acceptable the day I was there. UPDATE: The restaurant sent the bill to my credit card company and added $10 to the bill. Maybe they weren't expecting me to be the person who always reviews their statements? Was it intentional? I'd advise people to check...

A play on the classic that uses corn beef hash in place of the usual Canadian bacon. It was overall a good dish. I believe the hollandaise was not made from scratch but that is understandable considering the volatility and difficulty of scratch made hollandaise. The side of potatoes were nicely spiced and had a very pretty burnt orange colour suggesting flavor and caramelization, but was missing salt and pepper and perhaps some heat. Again understandable in this day and age of making a safe bet in an attempt to please all customers and not offend any. On the other hand the corn beef from a can was a complete dissapointment. The otherwise solid eggs benedict was held back by the bland and dull brown mush that was the corn beef hash. Making just this one component from scratch would have elevated the dish exponentially, securing a fifth star on my rating. The shining star was easily the poached egg. Any chef knows that how one cooks an egg is a basic measure of technical ability. This poached egg was perfectly executed, well formed, and with a beautifully runny yolk. Upon breaking it open this created a wonderful and rich sauce which bolstered the weak hollandaise. My impression of Sassafras was one of dependability and reliability......
