We ordered take out last night. One order of shrimp broccoli and one order of General Tso chicken. The food smelled decent but once it hit the plate it was a different story. One bite into the broccoli was hard and the shrimp were over cooked. After combing thru the shrimp broccoli after three bites I noticed something weird in my food. A small baby shrimp that was black as black could be. At first I thought it was a hot pepper but it was absolutely disgusting. I tried eating one more shrimp but the food was unflavored and tough. My husband starting eating his General Tsos and the shape of the meat looked different than any other General Tso’s . Same thing, meat was hard and disgusting and overcooked. Three bites in and he was done. We had two egg rolls with our meal that was the only edible thing honestly and nothing special, equivalent to what you may have on a buffet somewhere. We are severely dissatisfied with the quality of the food and the total cost was 35.00 for both meals to land in the trash after just a few bites. The appearance of the restaurant was also disgusting. As you stand to pay at the register, look behind you at the station that is absolutely disgusting with all the grease and you can stand to see where the open kitchen looks like a dungeon back there and definitely not the cleanest. I have not been here for many years and The dining room looks run down with the floors coming up. I actually had second thoughts after my observations of the restaurant as I was waiting for my food to be prepared if I should just walk out and say screw this nasty hole in the wall restaurant “ I hope I don’t get sick from eating here” I encourage you to read all the one star reviews as this by far is not an exaggeration of my experience. We were thinking of calling and complaining but after reading how the owners address their customers I don’t doubt that asking for a refund would have even happened. I wouldn’t dream of feeding the food to my dogs. Thank God we didn’t get food poisoning from this disgusting establishment. Shame on you for serving your community inedible food and having a disgusting, filthy...
Read moreI'm sorry. I really don't want to talk badly about this place because it's been in Shepherdstown for awhile now and I have nothing but small-town enthusiasm for them to succeed as a business, but our experience there was just downright awful. My mom took my boyfriend and I there for lunch on his birthday on Sept. 22. There were 2 other diners in there at the time who were finishing their meals, but otherwise the other tables were empty. The town was bustling with people on the streets so it was a little strange they didn't have more business. So here are the facts of what went wrong. My mom and boyfriend got the egg drop soup and it tasted so sour and off-putting that they just pushed it aside after the first spoonful. The owner woman said it was the town water that made it taste that way, but Mom and Boyfriend disagree. Even my hot and sour soup tasted especially sour. Just like an incredibly bright flavor. It was weird. Then my boyfriend ordered a pork dish he was excited about and he received a completely different pork dish. The owner said the server thought he asked for that one because it was the most popular pork dish. My food was just like one level below mediocre and my mom didn't enjoy her meal either. The best part of the dining experience for me, outside of just spending time with my mom and boyfriend, was the view of the main street and the passersby, and...
Read moreNice atmosphere upon entry. No one was there when we went Sunday at 530pm (which was strange, rose a red flag). They treat you to hot tea and a crispy finger food after you sit down. There is a communal sauce that you can use for dipping (it's little gross becuase I don't know how long it had been sitting there). We were never asked what we wanted to drink but the server brought us waters anyways, which was nice, i guess. Food was brought out to us quickly. Vegetables were fresh and the chicken was fried crispy (it was good). There was a little too much sauce, however. About half way through our meals we begin to hear a clipping noise adjacent from our table. Turns out that the server was clipping her nails as we were eating.... (vomit). We lost pur appetite and left shortly after. I peaked into the kitchen and it appeared to be very clean (which is a plus). After this service, I will probably not be back. A lot of restaurants in Shepherdstown are great, however, this is not one of them. Food = 6/10, Service 4/10, Atmosphere = 7/10. Better luck next time China Kitchen. You are almost not worthy to set up shop in downtown (not being rude, but, you are giving Shepherdstown...
