I walk here almost daily and it’s so fun. There’s this huge rock near the wall and you can climb on top of it . It’s so fun to watch the trains go by then run to the train tracks to see it up close. Also just looking at the water is so fun. And also, it is so fun to take pictures sitting at the monument and then when you get bored, you can walk to the playground and relive your childhood. There’s a bunch of spotted lantern flies sometimes so that’s just the only bad thing

The Rumsey Monument has some great views and a good bit of open grass to come and do whatever you want. There are a couple of pics tables and benches to use and a big rock which is easy to climb and relax on. This is my favorite place to run to and get to run the stairs to the monument for some more exercise. Overall a great place to hang out at on a nice day.

Really great view of the Potomac River and the old structures of the covered and railroad bridges. Great little park to pack a lunch and maybe read a nice book. The history on the monument about James Rumsey is also rather interesting. Lots of lantern flies for those that doing their part like the Mobile Infantry of the United Citizens Federation.

I have been in Shepherdstown so many times but I never noticed this little park hidden away until I decided to explore the town. The park was mostly vacant which made sense because it was near dinner time. The monument is huge. You walk up the steps to it and you can see a long way in the distance and your view is pretty spectacular. I bet it is even better...
