This was our second visit to Danny's, and I am sincerely sorry to write that we didn't enjoy it as much as our first visit. Our son was with us this time, and you know there may be an issue with the food when he says that the Zucchini And Peppers were the star of the show on his plate. He had also ordered the 1/2 lb. baby back ribs, and the coleslaw.
I ordered the ribs, baked beans, and potato salad. My son and I found an off-putting flavor in the ribs. The quality and cook of the meat was fine, there was just a natural flavor to the meat we didn't care for. It may have been from the diet the pigs that the ribs were processed from were fed. May be it was also because, to me, the meat was underseasoned, and I didn't get much flavor from the smoke. To me, the baked beans, which had generous amounts of pulled pork meat, and the potato salad also lacked flavor. The beans were more like a bean soup than baked. I prefer baked beans to be served "dry", not in a broth. The potato salad was good, but it was just lacking. My son said there wasn't much flavor in the coleslaw either. But for him the zucchini and peppers were "amazing". And he also said he really liked the BBQ sauce that was drizzled on the ribs.
My wife ordered The Brick, She said the brisket was very good but, again, she couldn't really taste the mac and cheese since it was overpowered by the brisket. She added that when she had the mac and cheese last year she liked it. She allowed me a few samples of the brisket meat. THERE were the flavors I had been looking for! Nicely seasoned and a very nice smoky flavor. It was true Texas-style brisket. That's the reason for the 3 stars.
Danny's has their smoker out front, and the the smoky smells should promise the flavors you're about to enjoy. Unfortunately, only the brisket fulfilled that promise. My wife and I think that the recipes for the sides need to be enhanced to provide more flavor. My son and I think the ribs, which are undoubtedly popular there, need more...
Read moreWe were in the area running some errands and shopping, working up an appetite so we decided to look for a local restaurant to try rather than wait until we got back home. I came across Danny's BBQ on Yelp and after reading the good reviews, decided to stop by and try.
When we walked in the employee greeted us and informed us that they were out of chicken for the day, which was fine because we already knew what we wanted. We placed our order, decided to dine in so we sat down at a table and waited for our food to be brought out (which took maybe 10 minutes)!
I ordered the pulled pork meal - comes with Texas toast and two sides... I opted for the Mac and cheese and baked beans. My husband ordered the ribs meal with the same two sides, I tried to get a picture of his food - but he was already digging in.
The pulled pork was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The texture was spot on as well, with some softer pieces and some harder pieces. The Mac and cheese was so flavorful, the texture was spot on (not mushy whatsoever or dry). The beans... were phenomenal. You know how some BBQ place have your typical "canned beans" baked beans taste, not these! They almost tasted like chili beans but had pulled pork pieces throughout. The plate as a whole was great and did not disappoint!
It is a smaller restaurant with only a handful of tables inside and a few picnic benches outside (for nicer weather days) but luckily alot of customers were ordering to go, so it was just us dining in.
Overall, from the food to the service - we'll definitely be back to Danny's BBQ and...
Read moreThe first visit to this establishment, I was VERY impressed. We ordered the ribs and potato salad and I believe cole slaw. Awesome! Everything was great. The ribs were tender and tasty and would melt in your mouth. The potato salad tasted homemade like mom used to make. The cole slaw was fine. Afterall, it's cole slaw. Not today, folks! Whatever that was the first visit, it was the opposite of what today's visit was. When we walked in, we were the only customers (about 5:15pm), so I guess we got whatever was cooking all day. We should have waited until the other customers got the "leftovers". The meat, in my opinion, was scooped over the bones as if it was the bottom of the barrel, the bottom of the pan. The meat was mostly burnt, dry and tasteless. I would have been embarrassed to serve this to my family, let alone a customer. I guess they needed the $18.00 (actually x2- $36.00). The potato salad was okay but not as good as before. What was okay? The toast was okay, the pickles on the side were okay and the Dr Pepper was okay. No one came over to ask how the meal was, probably because they already knew. I would have told them personally instead of writing this. My wife's ribs were barely better. She even complained a little and she usually doesn't do that. I am disgusted. I was hungry, I was looking forward to another great meal, then this happened. I hope this was an exception and not the rule. I don't think we'll be back, unfortunately. They seem like...
