Bamboo Garden Cafe — Restaurant in Sioux Center

i called in ordering blind, so I thought I'd play it safe in ordering sugar puffs(they call them sugar donuts), Kung Poa with peanuts, and a side of egg rolls. The sugar puffs, are good light, fluffy airy very well prepared, the egg rolls were good as well. The only thing that I was really taken back by was the Kung Poa chicken. It was a mix of vegetables and sauce upon first glance, with chicken and peanuts. However, When I began to dig in I quickly noticed that this sauce was beef based gravy, which was far to sweet for the meal and didn't work well with the dish. The vegetables were quite hard as well not being thoroughly cooked through. I was told 10-15 minutes and my order was to be ready on the phone, I arrived exactly 15 minutes later and ended up waiting around 10 minutes or so in the restaurant to receive my take...

This is not Chinese food or even Americanized Chinese food. The chicken is not fried in tempura but rather an over salted southern fried batter. The "General Chicken" tasted like bland and watery brown gravy. Maybe that's why they left the "Tso's" out of the name? Other comments: The sweet and sour sauce was also watered down. The lo mein resembled spaghetti noodles. Perhaps they thought they should cater to the local populace of primarily white-dutch but I'm pretty sure even the most boring of tongues can handle the typical and normal american-chinese food served in other restaraunts. Originally I left a good review and while I stand by this place being really good Chinese food—I’ve changed my mind about customer service and atmosphere. Where I had ordered ahead to take out, I was told it was going to be 20 minutes and it turned into an hour of waiting at the actual restaurant and seeing several people get there food ahead of me. People who had come in to order well after me and still got their food before me. No apologies for the wait, no discount, no excuses. It will be a while before I go here again.
