3 stars because we had some tasty food here a year ago before their extended closure, but I got some pretty unpleasant attitude bordering on hostility when we stopped in again last week. We were hoping to get some food on the way up to night skiing at Stevens, and have been looking forward to supporting this place's reopening. Google hours said they closed at 7, and it was 7:04 PM, but as we drove up the lit window sign said open, there were plenty of people inside eating, and the digital open-hours signboard said they were open until 9 PM several days a week. Great! Might as well give it a try. I walked inside to scout it out, planning to politely inquire if the kitchen was still serving. Before I could say a single word I was physically blocked from approaching the counter by an employee/manager/owner? who said, in a very unfriendly tone, "We're CLOSED." No explanation of the hours, no invitation to come back another time, just a glare. (How outrageous of me to come looking for dinner at 7 PM, right?) I just said "oh - ok - your sign says you're open until 9?" The man literally rolled his eyes and said "It does not say ANYWHERE that we're open until 9." Me: "Your sign outside. So you're not open until 9 ever?" Him: "NO." No further information. I say "ok then" and leave, go to double check the sign, which clearly still says 9pm and OPEN. As I leave, the guy is attempting to change the sign - so clearly he did know where the hours were posted and did not bother to check them before acting like I was a rude idiot for even being there. Guess this isn't a small business that needs our support. Too bad, my partner and I are on this road several times a week but are unlikely to be back in. EDIT: Thank you very much for your response, James. I am very sympathetic to how hard it is to staff restaurants now and what long hours are needed and I'm sure you are doing your best. However, I don't think that justifies the rudeness I received in response to my reasonable questions about your hours. You also mischaracterize the interaction with my boyfriend after I told him what you'd said - he knocked on the window to point to the sign and mouthed "nine o' clock" as you approached - there was no banging and yelling. The bird when you did not acknowledge him - well - uncourteous - but perhaps don't give it if you...
Read morewe wanted to go on a road trip so I told my wife, "I have no idea what's in this town, but there's this brewery. Why don't we go check that out? Maybe we'll find some other interesting stuff while we're there." Oh my God there we found out that out of the three or five beers on tap, only one of them was made by that establishment, and only in collaboration with a local brewery, not by The Establishment itself. I got that beer of course, and I thought it was pretty dang good. That was a huge relief to the waitress who then told me that that batch had been botched, they were trying to do one thing but then covid struck, and it got left unattended for far too long, one thing led to another and they're just trying to get rid of it so they could give it another shot. She also told another set of customers who elected to sit outside that they might see some bears. later the owner and her friend showed up, not to start work but to have a meal, they sat beside us, and started talking about the traffic that we experienced leading up to this place. Apparently a kayaker or tuber had capsized and drowned, which is why police were holding up traffic and leading other River rafters away from the scene. That reminded them of that other time a girl had "run away" under mysterious circumstances, "why would she leave her purse at home?"... Her missing poster is still on the door. I found the brisket a little dry, but my years in Kansas City have spoiled me. Go with the ribs! This place has a charm to it. A very...
Read moreStopped in on my way home from a four day backpacking trip, this being my first meal that wasn't freeze dried, so maybe I was just hungry but I quite enjoyed my meal. The owner was talking to some people when I walked in and mentioned that she's associated with a BBQ spot in Cle Elum. I've only ever stopped in Cle Elum one time for a meal but it so happens it was that restaurant in an old train station on the Iron Horse Trail and although it was a long time ago I remember it being some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Turns out the two are related. Small world. The menu seems similar and the quality does as well.
Anyway, I had a delicious brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. Lots of perfectly smoked beef with some sauce and cole saw on the sandwich. The bun was good but falls apart under all the meat. Not a criticism, just an observation. The mac and cheese was very good. There was a spice, paprika I think, that gave it a unique flavor which you may or may not like. I did.
This will be a consistent stop on my way home from hiking adventures in the...
