I hate to be that person that doesn't like the local favorite spot, but here we go. Dined in on a Tuesday, store was run by school kids and a moody, somewhat overwhelmed young lady. My friend and I were not greeted when we approached the counter. My friend and were 2 of 5 or 6 customersmost of whom were already served. We were excited to try many of the things on the menue and were offered the substantial marked up meal option only to find out later that MEALS do not include a beverage. A beverage costs almost an additional $3 and its obvious they want to sell "souvenir" cups as the price difference between a normal drink and the souvenir was $0.30. Our shock was not greeted with sympathy but instead a a blut statement of "you need to pay for that". My friend and I paid separately, and I had to ask have corrections made to the bill as the school kid ringing me up, upcharged me with items I did not order. We were told our food would be brought to us but they must have rushed because both our meals were missing food.my friend had her food corrected. My food came out after and was also missing items but I didn't want to wait for it to be fixed and went without. At this point our mood was ruined. But maybe the food could lift our spirits. NOPE. Why did the pulled pork come pre applied with sause and not the sause we prefer? The brisket was inconsistent and tougher than I would have liked at this price point. We did no get drinks and apparently water also costs near $3 since it's bottled. We were left thirst after spitting out one quarter of our meal. The Awesome Sause is awesome to be fair. I just really wish we had a better experience to enjoy it with. If you aren't as particular about these things as we are you may enjoy this place. The store is clean and cute. Lots of souvenirs to buy and well dressed and clean looking staff. I maybe recommend the other BBQ place just up the road...
Read moreThis rating is only for the Q, no sides. I used some "two-fer" coupons and got some BBQ sandwiches for take out. The BBQ was good, but didn't rise to the level of outstanding. Why? Primarily because I couldn't have it "my way" (with apologies to Burger King). I smoke my own Q, but I leave it to my guests as to what sauce they place on it, whether it be Carolina vinegar-based sauce, or a Memphis style sauce. Here, you get it one way - Memphis. I inquired whether there was some unsauced BBQ I could buy, and the answer was no, you'd have to special order that a day before.
I sent some back with my daughter to college, and she said it was good, but that she liked mine a LOT better.
I wish them well, but in America, it's all about choice. I doubt I'll return because I'm not given the choice of which sauce I want. Memphis style BBQ lovers, this is a top notch place and the reviews confirm that. But Carolina style BBQ lovers, you'll have to look elsewhere.
I personally hope the owners change their business model to embrace the segment of customers they're currently turning away. Smithfield needs more businesses like this, and I congratulate them for accomplishing what they have done so far. Just take this as constructive feedback to help ensure you STAY...
Read moreSo a coworker of mine kept bringing in these Q-daddy barbecue sandwiches to work. The sandwiches intrigued me so much I said I've got to try this place. I put it off for a couple of months before I said you know what today is going to be the day. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed with the results. I'm still trying to figure out in my mind, a week later how one combo meal and one sandwich comes up to $35.00. That's without a drink also. I don't understand that math. Secondly, If you're selling meat by the ounce; Why are you weighing the meat that you're selling me with buns on the scale as well? Also, why can I not see the scale as you're weighing the meat I'm purchasing? In regards to the food itself. The brisket was superb. Even after being chilled. The chicken salad missed the mark. Great flavor. However, the chicken itself was dry and the base was a bit runny for my liking. No one likes a soggy bun. Maybe they should incorporate some thigh meat, in with the breast meat. Just my opinion. I did appreciate that the sandwich was all breast meat. It was just too dry for me. In regards to the baked beans and hush puppies, they were...
