I will NEVER eat there again--not even if someone offered me dinner there for free. I have eaten there twice. If I had not been with a group who wanted to eat there the second time I wouldn't have. The first time I went there I arrived 20 minutes before the end of the lunch menu prices. It was not busy at all--there were two other tables who were already eating. The waiter sat at the register and stared at me. Finally, right at the end of lunch he walked to the table. I asked about the lunch menu and he said he could not give me those prices because it was too late and the register would not let him, which was the strangest excuse and out right lie I have ever heard. So, I stayed and ordered off the dinner menu.
The chips were greasy and stale and the salsa was watery. It took forever to get a refill on my drink.
It took 30 minutes to get my food. I have worked food service. I grew up with parents who owned a restaurant. I get that good food can take time. This was disgusting. I ordered a chimichanga. The meat was cold and dry--so dry I could not tell if it was chicken or steak. The rice and beans were cold and dry. None--and I mean NONE--of the food had any flavor. I'm not sure that my food had not been dug out of the trash.
This was the WORST dining experience of my entire life. If you are considering EL Metate in Soddy just drive a little further and go to Delia's, which is AMAZING.
I thought maybe my second experience would be better, but it wasn't outside of we did arrive at dinner hours, so that was not an issue. I'd actually give them negative...
Read moreIt’s been a while but I saw a young mother in this restaurant with two young kids. They were being a bit rowdy as kids do but were within reason. I watched this mother tend to her children while trying to sneak a bite in between playing with them. In the end she had one fall asleep on her lap with the other one leaned onto her other shoulder and somehow still ably feeding her child and herself. She just really looked like a kind, patient mother. I told my waiter I would pick up her tab and to please not say anything to her. Well, it must have literally gotten lost in translation because before I knew it I had a teary-eyed mother standing in front of me thanking me for what I’d done. I told her I think she just looked like a really good mother and she replied that sometimes it doesn’t seem that way. Either way I think she really needed to hear that so maybe she was meant to know where it came from. Mothers, always remember you are the most important thing in your child’s life. You always deserve more credit than what you get, and you collectively play a major role in shaping the future. Sorry about the review not really describing the restaurant….but it is good food. If you ever have the means to do something like this please do. It really will make a person’s day and...
Read moreWould normally post great things about El Matate as is our go to Soddy Mexican restaurant. To make long story short, wife and I ordered close to a $100 order via Uber Eats. We requested xtra salsa and put in the notes tab. Granted we would have been happy to pay for xtra but no option is given to order xtra salsa on side. After we place order we get note back from restaurant stating unable to accommodate the request. Thinking about as mistake I called El Matate thinking they would do the right thing and just add the xtra salsa to our order…well they refused and despite telling them we were regular customers and that we often frequent their restaurant it do not seem to matter. Apparently El Matate is doing so well they can refuse local dollars as we ended up canceling order and El Meson gladly took our hard earned money, Zero questions asked. We live in Soddy and prefer to spend our money here cause we feel it’s the right thing to do…it is unfortunate this feeling is not reciprocated. Normally not one to share posts but will be sharing this with all contacts across multiple platforms. Perhaps no one cares, but this one former...
