Just finished up our meal; we had high hopes since our first meal was great and they had delicious gluten free options for my wife! Boy, were we disappointed. My wife ordered the Steve’s burrito with the gluten free wrap. I ordered the “hot plate” with meatloaf, black eyed peas, green beans and mashed potatoes. Well…here’s where it goes south! The waitress came back and said they had to run home to get the stuff to make the tortilla; it would be 25 minutes. My wife just decided to go with a pancake, GF biscuit and the bacon gouda grits. It took a little while; more than normal, no big deal. However, I saw my “hot plate” sit for 10 minutes before my wife’s pancakes appeared and our food was served. I had a feeling my “hot” plate had turned into the cold lunch special; and I verified it with a taste. Yep… peas and beans were decently warm but the mashed potatoes and meatloaf felt like eating leftovers from grandmas table two hours ago. Not to mention, the meatloaf had a stringy, mushy texture and was dry as Clark’s turkey at Thanksgiving! Honest, it was the WORST meatloaf I’d ever put in my mouth. My wife was attempting to enjoy her pancake but it was way undercooked and mushy as her husband in the middle. Her grits were so cold they would not melt the cheese that was layered on top. Our faces must have said it all because our formerly smiling, upbeat waitress took on a pleasant salty note. I would have said something to make it right but where would we begin? Needless to say I wondered how are pleasantly salty waitress would react?!? I took this one for the team but will not EVER go back. Oh and the owner who checked on everyone to see if they were enjoying themselves mysteriously...
Read moreHave been seeing advertisements and reviews for this restaurant and finally went there to eat breakfast. Very friendly staff and dining room had a lot of character. I have to say the food was outstanding. My all meat omelette with cheese was probably the best omelette I ever had and my wife's french toast breakfast was excellent. However, this is probably the first and last time we will ever visit this establishment. Why? Well, when we ordered our meals we set next to a couple that was waiting for their meal when we arrived, I would guess they were their maybe 10 minutes as they were waiting drinking coffee. We ordered our meals right after we sit down and was brought coffee. Well, they got their order and finished their meal and was paying before we even got our food. We must of waited 20 to 30 minutes to eat. That is not even the worst that happened. I noticed during our visit how much smoke was in the dining area. Then the smell started. I believe they did not have on the air conditioner and just ceiling fans running. When we finished and left and set in our cars we smelled greasy smoke. The smell had permeated our clothes and hair. We were planning to go shopping afterwards but had to go home and change clothes because the smell of greasy smoke was in our clothes. No matter how great the food was, (and it was outstanding), I just cannot go into a dining room like this again. The smell was atrocious and the restaurant owners probably could simply fix this problem by turning on the A/C at the very least or getting a better ventilation system....
Read moreHubs and I stopped by on a recent trip through town. Loved the atmosphere and our server was friendly and kind. It took a while for someone to take our order. I noticed that the folks who came in about 5 minutes after us, had their food before we ordered.
I had a salad plate, which was mediocre at best. The layered salad had enough mayo for 5 salads. I nearly gagged on a mouthful there was so much mayo. The salad was served in a small prep bowl, so I transferred it to my plate and picked out the lettuce and peas that were of smaller content than the mayo.
The chicken salad was not chunks of chicken and celery like most in the south. The chicken was finely shredded, like what would come out of a can. It didn't have any substantial texture and reminded me of tuna salad.
Hubby had the special: the chicken spaghetti. He ate the small portion, saying it was okay. The baked apples were an odd red color, but the taste was again, okay.
Most of the portions were small. There aren't many restaurant options in Somerville, and I'm guessing the daily specials that offer variety and the ability to socialize are likely two of draws to this establishment. It was a quaint little spot conveniently located off the square as well.
The food wasn't bad. It was just 'okay' and the small portions weren't...
