Tiny hole in the wall we ended up at because the 2 places we had planned on going to while on that side of town were closed that day.
THANK GOD they were closed.
This is an incredible place to eat/get takeout from. There's a tiny abuelita in the kitchen with other (mostly) ladies in multiple generations and the food reflects that.
The Salsa Verde was so bright and fresh! The other sauce that came with the tacos was deep, dark, almost mole level with coffee/chocolate tones and smoked chile flavors. I put it on the french fries we got as an appetizer and it was beautiful.
Horchata was the best Mexican-type I've had in the area. Spices were fully there in the first small sip. Didn't have to
Will most definitely return!
(This is a newer business in the same space as a previous one that also made good food according to Mexican and Mexican-food-loving friends, but I had not been there before.)
Cash only! Totally worth hitting the ATM for it! Closed...
Read moreThis little, homey taqueria is excellent in every way. I had the barbacoa and the carnitas tacos, Mexican style, with only cilantro and onions. The barbacoa was nicely spiced with cumin and chilies (I think), and the carnitas were tender and crisp at the same time. The corn tortillas were warmed, soft and had a deep, rich corn taste. Everything harmonized well. As far as the service is concerned, it's personable and always at hand. However, and this really isn't a criticism, the cooks seem to have an aversion to salt. Somebody mentioned this on Yelp, and I'd like to echo it here. This is certainly a good thing if you're watching your sodium intake; if not, then there are salt shakers on all the tables, just allow the salt a moment to dissolve on the (very moist) toppings. If I'm in South Bend long enough, I'm going to go back to try the other meats. Give this place a shot and support good food...
Read moreFirst time trying this restaurant. THERE ARE SO MANY...I say, how many ways can you do a taco, really. What impressed me most, was the lil section where you could get your own cilantro, pico, peppers etc. When I saw the radishes and cucumbers, I said truly authentic. Most places ration it out, and they have a store hooked up to them. I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the woman cooking didn't understand English, but the younger server was as nice as she could be. We went at an off time, around 3p on a Saturday. NOT...
