Hands down the best latinx food in town. No doubt about it.
Everything is good, but my lord...the meat. The meat is PHENOMENAL. I've lived all over california and I've never had such fantastic tacos.
Assuming your diet permits, do yourself a favor and order a few quesadillas. No no, these are NOT the US, closed-top quesadilla you might expect...these are basically the best melted cheese tacos you could ask for at an insanely low price.
Get corn if you are okay with less food but want that hearty grit, get flour if you want them bigger and soft. Pick up whatever meat and fixings you want and you will be blown away. I do 2 carne asada, 2 cesina, and 2 chorizo on flour, eart 3 and take the rest home.
They have good burritos too, the mole is legit as well, and I've never heard complaints from my Spanish First Language friends regarding the dozens of other things they've ordered...but I'm sticking with what I know is perfect, and perfect doesn't do their quesadillas justice. đđđ
Para el maestro de la cocina: muchas gracias por abrir sus puertas y poner esa vida en su oficio. Siempre volveremos por mĂĄs. (sorry my Spanish is rusty)
**protip - if you like sweets after salty, head across the street to Rosita's for some amazing icecream. If that's not your game, TC has great horchata as well.
Oh, and PS: if you are turned off by what some reviewers call "local gang members", then head back to your white enclave and scarf down some gross hacienda. You can't constantly appropriate foodways from people who make beauty out of their struggle, go to a place they've built for themselves, and criticize them for feeding thei local community. You...
Read moreEverytime I go here I get charged more than the menu price for the last few years. I complain then get charged the correct price. Thatâs how it used to be. Finally they posted a menu price change on the wall. When covid hit they raised the prices more. They posted it. I stopped going because the prices were high and the amount of meat I got was half what it was before. A year later I came back. Today the meat was more of a portion than last time. However the price was .25 cents more than the updated menu price again and there was no menu posting on the wall. The excuse was âitâs been 3.75 for a quesadilla for forever nowâ The menu says $3.50. I complained. She didnât take it off. Had I known Iâd be paying $8 for 2 quesadilla Iâd have eaten elsewhere. I can get good Mexican for less. Iâve been eating here for probably 14 years. It used to be worth the money. Now I will only come here maybe one time a year just because I feel the value is less and getting gypâd for an extra .25 cents per item & Sorry but I shouldnât have to double check and ask if the menu prices are correct or not. When you order food on a menu with prices you know what to expect when you get the bill. Not here. Who knows if they upped the charges on more expensive items by $1 or $2 and then you find out when you get the bill???? Screw that. Thatâs not good business. Iâve supported this place and spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars here but Iâm done. Yes I get that it doesnât seem like a huge deal but Iâm tired of getting the bill and it always being more. It just ruins my meal. I donât care how good it was when...
Read moreWell, the first thing I'll say is... VIVA Mexico!
Don't make this place a stop as a detour, make it a destination. No kidding; if you're near Chicago coming from the East, this is a stop in South Bend.
I will dispense with any Guy Fieri catchphrases and just say it straight.
Excellent. Authentic. Tasty (sabroso!). Real. Mexican. Food. Full stop.
We travel a lot and get sick of fast food, so we look for local places that worth a stop; the hidden gems Triple D misses (Guy, you better be reading this and inviting me when you go there).
Mexican is simple but can be easily messed up. What's the difference... the meat and how you season it.
The tacos carne asada were bomb... and a heaping portion of meat, no skimping for $3/taco. It was lip-smacking yummy... why? Because the meat was marinaded and then seasoned properly. Winner dish.
Same with my 15-year-old daughter's pernil burrito/taco in a flour tortilla. She said, "I ordered one taco and there was so much flavor."
House-made guacamole that was mixed not two minutes before I ordered it. Excellent salsas... a red, hot one from chile de arbol but not just heat for the sake of heat, flavor. And a green tomatillo y avocado salsa. Both house-made with love.
Great job Kevin & Adriana, owners/managers + Jeanette, front of house. We will be back and...
