Grotto Pizza — Restaurant in South Bethany

Called for a delivery order ($80 order) gave them our address and they took the order. 45 minutes later, they called and said the driver decided we were “too far”…. kept telling me we were in a different community than our actual community. We order delivery from this south Bethany frequently with no issue. Put me on with 2 different managers who were both very rude and said 3 different ( made up) the reasons were 1- too far, 2- the driver decides if he wants to deliver it, 3- they only deliver in the winter?? Then she canceled our order telling us we had to pick it up… if we could have picked it up, we wouldn’t have ordered delivery. When I asked what was going to happen to the $80 worth of already cooked food that was sitting, ready to go, she said “ the employees would eat it. Glad the employees all got a free $80 dinner on grottos dime. Pretty sure the driver just assumed we were tourists who weren’t going to tip- I always pay with our card, and leave at least a 25% cash tip- which I told the order taker. What is obnoxious is them waiting almost an hour to tell us we aren’t getting our food, yet charged our card then made it seem like she was doing us a favor by refunding us… refunding us was the minimal thing to do and the customer service is at zero. Bye, Grotto we took our business to Fox’s pizza on 26- excellent food and...

We have always loved our traditional Grotto pizza stop on the way to the beach, unfortunately this time we left feeling very frustrated and disappointed. We specifically called ahead this time because we have multiple little ones sitting in traffic and knew that a long wait after a long car ride would be tough. We asked the gentleman we talked to on the phone if we could order over the phone and eat in the restaurant. He said that it can’t always happen, but that they weren’t too crowded and could accommodate us. We arrived holding multiple children and the hostess continued to refuse to seat us even after explaining that we had called ahead. We then ended up just grabbing a table because there were many empty tables. None of the waitresses came by to assist us and we were hoping to order drinks. We would’ve tipped for the full bill (we even told them so) if they would’ve stopped by. On top of it, we got many rude and angry looks from the hostess and her friends. We are so disappointed and will now go to a local pizza shop...

This place is okay but it’s not that great. They were understaffed and I think it was the only waitress there) first day she was super sweet. For being empty it was a very slow wait just to get our appetizers. We ordered the loaded sidewinder fries and they didn’t use normal cheese it was the cheese you eat on nachos… it was weird (not bad but not great either). I ordered “fried mozzarella” (mozzarella sticks) it tasted like something I’d buy from the Walmart freezer section. The cheese inside was like one of those over processed almost plastic cheese sticks stuffed inside some breading. The “mozzarella” didn’t have a real mozzarella consistency. Pizza was so overloaded with sauce I could have eaten it with a spoon…idk how this place is a 4 star? The half cheese half pepperoni pizza we ordered tasted like something from the public school cafeteria. The mozzarella on the pizza was also the fake processed cheese but there was so little of it that it didn’t do anything worse...
