Misaki Sushi is a Japanese restaurant in South Bethany. We didn't like how they called and asked if we could move our reservation up by half an hour to accommodate other reservations they had that night. When we arrived, we checked in with the hostess, and were seated at the table. Our server Elysia was hospitable, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.
For drinks, we enjoyed their drink special - American Dream, Pom Passion, N/A Mojito, Dirty Martini, Asahi, Hot Sake, and Pots of Hot Roasted Green Tea. The American Dream consisted of a chilled tall glass filled with ice, coconut rum, pineapple wine, blue curacao, and lime juice, topped with club soda, and garnished with a maraschino cherry. It was light, sweet, fruity, refreshing, bubbly, and quite festive. The Pom Passion consisted of orange vodka, ginger liqueur, pom juice, grand marnier, and sour mix shaken with ice and poured in a cosmopolitan-style cocktail glass, and garnished with lime wedge.
For dinner, we shared a Garlic Miso Edamame, Calamari, Tempura Sea Bass, Seaweed Salad, Tempura Dinner, Sushi & Sushi Dinner, Sashimi Dinner, Specialty Roll, Dancing Eel Roll, and Sure Shot Roll. The dinner entrees came with either a House Salad or a Miso Soup.
The Garlic Miso Edamame was tasty! The Calamari consisted of crispy curry-infused tempura battered calamari rings and tentacles fried and served with a lemon caper aioli and pineapple ponzu. I like how the curry powder wasn't overpowering. The Tempura Sea Bass consisted of crispy tempura sea bass served, sprinkled with sesame seeds with avocado salad. We didn't receive a sweet and spicy miso sauce that was supposed to go with it. The Seaweed Salad sounded fancier than it actually was. It tasted like store-bought seaweed salad. There wasn't any carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, or radishes as described. It was just served on a bed of mixed greens.
The Tempura Dinner consisted of crispy tempura battered shrimp and assorted vegetables (including eggplant, green bean, onion, red bell pepper, sweet potato, zucchini) and served with a sweet dashi dipping sauce. The Sushi & Sushi Dinner consisted of a Misaki Roll (basically a Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll) and a chef's selection of nigiri and sashimi). There were 4 pieces of nigiri (including eel, salmon, shrimp, and tuna) and 8 pieces of sashimi (2 pieces of octopus, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail). The Sashimi Dinner consisted of chef selection of assorted sashimi (including 3-4 pieces of octopus, salmon, seabass, tuna, yellowtail).
The House Salad consisted of mixed greens garnished with assorted veggies and tossed in a tangy sweet ginger vinaigrette. It was crisp and quite refreshing. The Miso Soup consisted of miso-dashi broth cooked with tofu, nori, and scallion. It was a bit bland compared to other miso soups I've had.
The Specialty Roll consisted of Seared Salmon, Avocado, and Jalapeno topped with Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Mayo, and Siracha. There was a kick with every bite. The Dancing Eel Roll consisted of smoked eel and cucumber finished with a sweet eel sauce. The Sure Shot consisted of yellowtail, avocado, and tempura scallion topped with miso seared whitefish. It was definitely more interesting than a yellowtail scallion roll but would have tasted better if finished with a miso drizzle or the like.
We finished our meal with an order of Fried Oreo, 2 pieces of Black Sesame Mochi Ice Cream, and 1 piece of Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream and 1 piece of Black Sesame Mochi Ice Cream. The Fried Oreo were served with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. Not only was it beautifully plated, it also tasted delicious. We were a bit disappointed about the Black Sesame Mochi Ice Cream as it tasted like a Vanilla Mochi Cream with a faint black...
Read moreOK. Here's my experience that just happened. My son and daughter and I walked into the restaurant expecting to have dinner. There were three tables occupied, and the sushi bar had three vacant seats, (though not together). Most of the tables were empty. We were told that we could not be seated and that was that. The manner in which the three hostesses said it was snotty. On the wall, there was a table map for their use that showed people coming in with incoming reservations. At least three of the tables were for 7:30. (It was 6:19 when we arrived). I get how restaurants work. I've owned a few of them. Like, there were literally 8 tables that had no one in them. OK, so, their's likely no ownership around, and these three were just doing what they though made sense--it doesn't--, but, they were super snotty about it. Just not cool. We wound up getting take away, which was good btw. One of the sushi chefs came out and said it would be 15 minutes for our rolls--the three hostesses said they didn't have an idea how long it would take. The final synopsis: Decent sushi (I've come here once or twice per year on our annual vacay), but dump those three hostesses. They don't bring any positive vibe to the restaurant. (My daughter, probably just a year or two older than they appeared to be) also thought they were exceptionally rude. On the bright side, the roll which was a type of fusion roll with sweet habanero, pico de gallo, and crab was...
Read moreI place an order and arrive when I am told it would be ready(45mins).Whoever forgot to put the order in.
They tell me it'll be 30mins more before they can make it. Sushi chef and manager just blow it off. Doesn't take that long to make 4 rolls. Utterly ridiculous!
Hostess was very nice. Chef and manager not so much...
Thanks for the disappointment!
Update:
The owner finally replied to my comment and completely lied. Not once did I cuss at the hostess or manager. I am a professional and would never do that.
As I stated before, the hostess was more than helpful in trying to work it out. She even offered a discount on the food. I was obviously annoyed that the chef could not rush a simple sushi order and asked for the manager.
The woman, who said she was the manager, came up and I explained the situation. She got annoyed that I said it should only take 5mins to make my order but obliged in asking the chef to rush it.
The chef again said he would not accommodate me in rushing the order so I said thanks for nothing and left.
Goes to show the type of business they are and will never step foot in there again.
Not once did they try to do anything to try and rush a simple sushi order that was placed...
