Our first time having dinner here on Saturday 5/21 @5:30 and it should have been sooner as we recently built a home literally 10 mins away. I'll say at the outset I understand Fine Dining, have enjoyed many places around the country. We are also regulars at Hall's Chophouse in Charleston. It was my Wife's Birthday, so a good time to visit. I made the reservation online via Open Table as redirected by Bistro 90 website. Reservation asked if it was a special occasion, I said yes, Birthday. Reservation format asked : Select Seating Type - Standard, High Top, Bar (unavailable), Outdoors ( unavailable ). I checked Standard. Reservation form then says - A Note from restaurant ... * PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK SELECTION. TABLE CHOICE MADE DURING BOOKING WILL BE SEATED ACCORDINGLY *. When we arrived, the host greeted us, checked computer for reservation and told young lady where to seat us. We were placed at a small High Top in the Bar with music speaker overhead, and after a few mins some quite loud Bar patrons. Next to us was a window covered by miniblinds that needed wiping down. In Fine Dining, details matter. I will say ... that our meal was delicious. I even told the Bartender ( our Server ) that it takes skill to cook a thick Filet Mignon to Med - Well without butterflying it ... but thats how it was done and it was delicious. It seems that this place has a ton of regulars. Throughout our 2 hour stay, the Host circulated around especially in the Bar, and spoke to everyone... at the bar, on the Patio, next to us, behind us. Walked by us perhaps 8 times. Never one word to us, not a normal, "how are things". I guess you have to be a regular to be spoken to. Living now 10 mins away, we could have become regulars. It may be that we are spoiled by service at other Fine Dining locations I apologize for this long review. When you lay down over $300 (with tip), your expectations are higher. As we walked to the car my wife commented "if your going to charge Hall's prices ( or more), you should provide Hall's level service". In summary ... the food was excellent ... the attention to detail and honoring explicit instructions on the reservation form , were disappointing. ( To those who question why I did not intervene when we were being seated incorrectly, it was my Wife's Birthday & she would have been uncomfortable if I had started the evening with...
Read moreLast night my partner and I went to Bistro 90 for a birthday celebration. My birthday celebration was a complete disaster. Our bill came to $240 with the tip. No drinks, just water. My partner ordered sea bass and a side of spinach. I, for my birthday, ordered the 20 oz Cowboy ribeye and two sides which were $10. each. I ordered my steak medium rare. I also ordered two sides which are not included with the entree. When the meal came, I was asked to cut into the steak to see if it was to my liking. The entire steak was medium. No where was there any hint of pink. Now, if I am going to pay $79. for a steak, I should have it to my liking. I had to send it back because I knew that I would not enjoy it. Well, my partner had finished his meal which he said was okay. For $70. it should have been more than okay. Anyway, he had finished his meal and we sat there for I kid you not, an additional 40 minutes waiting for my steak. By this time, I really felt like I couldn't even eat, I was so upset. I was again asked to cut into it. It was barely better than the first. The two sides had been sitting there for an hour and were very cold by that time. Do you think that they could have brought new sides to go with the hot steak? Do you think the waitress could have offered to warm my two sides? No. I asked for a container. I was so upset that I could not eat. Do you think that a manager or someone could have come over and apologized? That did not happen. Or that they might have made some sort of adjustment in the total price for their incompetence, again no. I told the waitress that I did not blame her but my birthday dinner was a complete disaster. She said, "well I hope you give us another try." I said NO. Seriously, if they are going to charge $79. or $110. (yes they had a steak for $110) that they would have a chef that knew how to cook a damn steak!!!!! The next day I was going to have it for lunch and honestly, there was no flavor, no juice. Dried up steak went straight to the trash. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. To make matters worse, we had a $100 gift card and was told that they could only use $80. of it because the computer wouldn't let them use the whole amount. Bistro 90 left a very bad taste...
Read moreI had heard great things about this place from some neighbors and we went for a birthday dinner. Knowing it was a higher cost restaurant we were really expecting a better experience than we had as they came up short in several ways. Our waiter was very nice, but clearly forgot to tell us about the evening specials and I only knew about them from overhearing another waiter describing them to an adjacent table. We had already ordered our apps and meals with our salads being served when I heard about the fresh oysters they offered as an app. I asked our waiter if the oysters were still available. They were so I ordered some and only then did he tell us about the evenings specials. (I'm not sure why at that time as we had already ordered our meals). While waiting the waiter came by the table 3 times saying warm bread would be coming, which it finally did some time later. We waited an hour and a half to get our entrees which weren't even hot when they arrived and our waiter asked if he could get us anything else. We had to remind him we had ordered sides and he said they would be right up. They did arrive shortly after but none of the 3 sides were even hot. Then our waiter disappeared so I had to ask another waiter for a steak knife so my wife could cut her pork chop as she has only been given a butter knife! As far as the entrees themselves my wife's bone-in pork chop, although not hot, was very tender and juicy. The veal Siciliana I had was very large with leftovers brought home for a nice lunch tomorrow. We did have very nice desserts with the Creme Brulee being very good and a huge slice of Orange-coconut cake that could easily satisfy 2 guests! The "100% Columbian coffee" served with dessert was very strong, but it was only luke warm and not very hot. From start to finish it took a total of 2 &1/2 hours for our meal with other diners arriving after us getting their meals before us and leaving before we were done. I feel like the waiter was new and still learning his craft, but in a restaurant of this supposed caliber and reputation we were sadly disappointed with our experience with both the food and...
