La Famiglia pizza — Restaurant in South Carolina

They're back open! After a brief period (which felt like eternity) where they were closed for staffing issues the best pizza in Pawleys Island is back. This is real NY/NJ style pizza (I believe the family is from Long Island...I may have misunderstood...but if they made their pizza there the way they do here the neighborhoods would be just as happy). Large, fold in half slices with very tasty toppings and friendly service. We've tried every other pizza place in the area, and they each have their merits, but this place is the real deal. We have never had real Italian or Sicilian pizza, so we thought, let's see what's different! Drove over in the afternoon. He had a meat lover's, I had the veggies with grilled chicken. We liked the minimal sauce, the crust was hard on the bottom but soft on top, like it had been overworked. I liked the veggies but some of the chicken pieces tasted strange. The worst part, though, was the 2000-for-$6 cheap paper plates, that shredded easily under the butter knives they provided. About 8 people came in for to-go orders while we were there; I can see why folks would take their food home. We won't be back, but I'm sure that the Pawley's Island...

Personally went tonight and ordeed a pizza 1/2 Philly cheesesteak with red sauce and other 1/2 pepperoni & mushrooms. Clarified with the girl who took the order and also one of cooks, numerous times, that I wanted red sauce instead of the garlic and oil on the Philly cheesesteak half. Well guess what... garlic and oil and no red sauce as reqiested. Not sure where the miscommunication happened, because I confirmed numerous times with the order taker that she had it correct and it showed correct on my receipt. Very disappointed.
