I ordered fajitas and a pint of mild salsa take out last night. Got home and there were no tortillas and the salsa was too hot to eat so we put everything in the fridge and saved the fajitas for tonight. I stopped back by Maria's tonight, with my $27.25 receipt, to get my tortillas and MILD salsa. I have been a regular customer since they opened years ago and this is only the second time we have EVER had an issue with dinner there or with take out. They gave us a quart of hot salsa instead of mild earlier this year but they did correct the issue...not without a fight though. Well, tonight the owners daughter very rudely told me that she would give me the tortillas but she was going to charge me for them...REALLY? REALLY? I stopped by tonight in the rain, at almost 10 PM (I work late hours) to pick up what I already paid for last night and even left a tip, and am now told that she is going to charge me AGAIN! I think not! I picked up my receipt, told her that I would never come back and the response I received was 'OK'. Obviously she does not know the value of a customer. I came home and trashed my untouched tortilla-less fajitas and HOT salsa. I was no longer interested in their Mexican food. There are lots of other Mexican Restaurants that aren't disrespectful. I will not tolerate treatnent like that! I have always praised their food and service and have been tbeir #1 fan. I will never, ever step foot in Maria's again and will also tell my Johns Island neighbors and friends what terrible treatment I received! It is unbelievable that the owners daughter will treat a LOYAL customets this way.
**This is the first Review that I have ever felt...
Read moreLet me start off by saying, my husband & I loved Maria's. Great food, great margaritas, great service. Unfortunately, circumstances have forced me to leave such a negative review and to vow never to return to Maria's. A group of friends went to Maria's for happy hour. The sign at the front said "$1 off on House Margaritas...$4.00" (plus some other stuff about beer and wine). Perfect! We went to our table &, of course, ordered happy hour house margaritas. After receiving our checks, we noticed we were charged $7 for each margarita. When querying our waiter, he said that the $7 charge was for the large margarita (which he had apparently given us without our knowledge) while $4 only applied to the small margarita. Nowhere on their happy hour sign OR their normal menu was there any mention of a small versus large house margarita. We brought up this discrepancy only to be vehemently rebuffed by our waiter. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were informed that there was no manager on site. We persisted, and finally, a lady who said she was in charge at the time came to our table. We explained the situation, and she and two other waiters proceeded to argue (yes, full on argue) with us for a solid 5 minutes insisting that it was our fault for not asking for a small versus a large margarita (we had no idea there were both small and large sizes as this was nowhere mentioned) before finally giving in and giving us the happy hour house margarita price of $4 as advertised. I am deeply saddened to have to leave this review and to not return to Maria's, but we cannot support such blatant dishonesty and a very obvious attempt to upsell us without...
Read moreWould you give up $15,000 in revenue for a teaspoon of Enchilada sauce?
We have been loyal Maria's customers since 2008--way before it was bougie. We went at least 2x/week for months on end--spending close to $100 each meal. We loved the food, the atmosphere the down to earth staff, the reasonable prices.
Was excited to go again this summer. Ordered my Enchiladas Sauza as usual. There was a miniscule amount of green sauce on them.
Next time we went--a few days later. I placed my order as usual: no chicken, 1/3 the cheese Cheese Enchiladas with verde sauce and I ask him to add a teaspoon more sauce because there was not enough sauce on it. He says "$2 extra". I'm shocked--so I decide to ask the manager Eric not to charge me.
If I were the owners I would fire Eric faster than you can say "adios $15,000." He starts arguing with me that it cost them money to get the sauce--when I press him on how much a teaspoon of sauce would be he has no idea. He is rude asking me if I regularly go into restaurants and ask for free food. REMINDER as a lactose intolerant vegetarian I am PAYING FULL PRICE for the chicken enchiladas and the full cheese BUT ordering it with NO CHICKEN and 1/3 the cheese.
SO THE GUY IS ALREADY MAKING 40% more profit on me--even if he gave me the extra teaspoon of Verde sauce.
The conversation gets worse until I finally give up on him and on Maria's.
Haven't been back since and will not go again and have told EVERY FRIEND not to go to Maria's. What kind of a store hires a manager who alienates loyal long term customers for the...
