Mike and or Jeff must've been out today....Food tasted BAD. Sometimes BBQ places are mid and you feel like you overpaid. This was Bad. All the BBQ had a bad smoke taste more akin to chewing on a cigarette rather than a nice hickory or pecan flavor. The ribs were tough as hell and found a way to be both simultaneously over cooked and under cooked. The collards tasted and looked like they had been sitting in the pot for a week and had zero flavor. Mac and Cheese was edible but nothing to write home about.
Service was fine from the waitresses. Except when you go to pay, the lady at the front rudely asks if you want to tip. And when you give a percentage other than 15%, 20% or 25% you get snarked at and told that's not possible. Calculators apparently don't exists in this realm to enter that amount in the custom field of the checkout tablet. Conveniently only accessible by the lady at the checkout point.
Atmosphere......you've got to have MUCH better food to be a hole in the joint like this. Parking? Sucks. Indoor seating? Room for 8. Unless someone is already sitting at the middle table than the back corner is inaccessible. Also don't look up if you taste some extra "flavor" in your food. That's just the dust/drywall from the falling ceiling tiles landing in your food. Probably nothing to worry about there. Plus you'd be hard pressed to taste it anyways over the burnt smoke taste. Turn the smoker down buddy. Called low and slow for a reason.
Avoid at all costs if you have allergies. Big ole burger bun slapped on top of each plate with out warning on the menu. And breaded foods of all sorts will end up in your french fries from who knows when. Some people delight in finding a piece of fried okra or onion ring in their fries. Other people will have to break out the EpiPen.
Go down the road to Lews BBQ. Much better food, service, and atmosphere. Plus they serve brisket (not an option at Mike and Jeff's) with...

Read moreDrove from Columbia to hang with my brother who highly recommended this restaurant. I got the 3-meat with 2 side combo meal - ribs, chicken, and pulled pork.
The ribs and chicken were very good. I left the pork for last because, lets be honest, pulled pork everywhere else is dried out and lacking in flavor. However, I was dead-wrong here. The smoked pulled pork hit me with a deep wood flavor that caught me by surprise along with being very juicy as if it had just come off the smoker. The color of the meat was also a testament to the authenticity of cooking pork the old way. This is not a mass produced product and it was amazing to the last bite.
Jeff was kind to speak after about the cooking process. It was amazing hearing his insight and the different wood flavors used to accent the meat. Very humble guy for such a great final product.
The beans and macaroni and cheese were on point as well. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I nearly broke down in tears and saluted the American flag. I thought I had transported to...
