Mr. Jalapeño — Restaurant in South Carolina

So this place was recommended to me by a good friend . I was so excited to try because I love a good Mexican restaurant! The food was amazing might I start with that ! My server spoke very very little English which I understand it’s a Mexican restaurant but being that I am in the industry I know that a large part of being a server is communicating! If my server can’t communicate with me then how can he/she give good service? He wasn’t able to understand the drink I ordered. I asked for a fresh Don Julio margarita… I have bartending experience and I see him going to make me a margarita with El Toro… YUCK ! I stop him in the midst of making because I don’t want to be difficult and waste anything ! Another coworker came by and got it right for me ! I then asked another server who’s English was better if they have Red Bull .. he kindly told me no so I went to the next best thing ginger ale .. he told me yes he had ginger ale … I ordered a Don Julio with ginger ale … I then here him tell the bartender to make a Don Julio and sprite . When I asked him about it he said no we only have sprite … I’m sorry folks but it is NOT the same and you cannot just give someone what you have without communicating and expect them to be happy with it ! My server couldn’t recommend anything on the menu to me which sucked because it was my first time there and I wanted to get the best thing !!! Unfortunately I will not be back to this establishment. We really wanted this to be a favorite stop because of its great location and comfortable inside, but it's not. The food was bland, tasteless, and the chicken was a chewy toughness. The rice and beans were without any flavor. We sat at the bar. Liquor was an afterthought when organizing the bar. It sits on coolers or on super high shelves few could reach. We didn't know there was draft beer. Taps couldn't be seen. The server makes the drinks. Without a bartender, a margarita might be made one way by one server and a different way by a different server. The staff was efficient but not very friendly. There were three tables. We just moved to the area two moths ago and while I’m not typically one that reviews places, I felt as though I must. The food is delicious and the service has been superb during each of my 6 visits! KAREN is wonderful! Always delightful and even beings I’m new, she remembered my drink (sweet tea). 6 times in two months speaks to the quality in itself! lol Our daughter (11 today) will never eat salsa, but, theirs is so good she eats is! The “hot” one. It’s not super spicy, but flavorful! She told me to add that! lol Take it from the kid and eat here! 😊
